I adopted three kittens in 1998. Two lived to the age of 17 and the third lived to the age of 19 and passed away in 2017. I still grieve and think of them often, especially losing them so close together. The 19 year old used to do a lot of what I call, crying or wailing, especially at night and the vet said it was dementia. Just like an elderly person gets dementia, she said cats do too. Also, I could tell she had arthritis. So kind of you to adopt an elderly cat. I don't know how people can surrender elderly pets. It makes me so sad to see them in the shelters.

Sounds like the one who eats all of the time and has lost weight might have diabetes. Very likely as those are main symptoms along with drinking a lot. That kitty will die without intervention. Have you considered taking it to the vet for blood work.
