Wow!  I just got home and saw all these posts from everyone!  I can't thank you all enough for your kindness and genuine concern for our situation. Everyone offered great insights and advice!  I'm not sure yet how this will play out. But we will be talking to our son about this.  Thank you all again so very much for taking the time to respond!❤️

Isn't an australian cattle dog a herding dog? My aunt and uncle had a beautiful long haired white cat named Gardenia. Then they bought a Shelty, a herding dog as well. The dog wanted to herd the cat and Gardenia did not want to be hearded or play. As a result Gardenia spent most of her time on top of the refrigerator where the dog could not reach her. Maybe some kind of cat climbing thing that the dog cannot navigate? It is a difficult problem. Good luck.

Good luck.  You are right,  this is an emergency situation.  Your home is NOT that dogs territory.  You are NOT the leader of it's pack. Unless you have done some serious training work with her she does not see you as her Boss.   Your beloved kittycat is in deadly danger every time you bring that dog into your home.  Your Son needs to take the responsibility back upon himself and find a doggie day care or someone who can go to HIS home and care for his dog daily.  You are putting YOUR kitty in a dangerous situation that it CANNOT get away from.  IF you are going to continue to bring the dog into your home every day, you need to consult a behavior modification specialist.  Your Kitty And You may be hurt if your sons dog decides to go through you to get to your cat.

WHat has been your sons resopnse when you told him what's been going on?
