Guess I take a different approach, first the infected tick needs to remain attached for 2 -3 days in order to transmit to the dog.  Careful inspection after a walk or outside time will prevent the tick remaining attached and transmitting.  I also use a flea and tick preventative.  Second only 5 - 10 % of the dogs infected will show any symptoms.  Personally I would rather take the proactive approach to prevent rather than vaccinate, however I do understand that others may have situations that are different.
