Do your dogs follow you into the bathroom?

We've had Howie for over 7 years. He usually does not come into the bathroom but he guards the doorway into my bedroom. Frankie comes in the bathroom and walks out with me. I Googled it and Google says that pack animals guard other members of the pack while they use the bathroom because the animal is considered vulnerable while using the bathroom. That is why your dogs follow you into the bathroom.  The dog in the background is guarding the doorway into my bedroom and Frankie is guarding the doorway into the bathroom. Do yours do this?

No, but my one cat sleeps outside my bedroom doorway and if I get up in the night to use the bathroom, he'll follow me in. Then he follows me out and flops on the floor for a belly rub.

No, they don't follow me to the bathroom, but they do follow me to the kitchen!

They know which cupboard holds their treats and they will stand below and stare.  If I ignore them, they will try to get my attention and jump up and down while barking.

When she hears me 'tinkle' then she comes running in! Otherwise I can walk into my bathroom and she doesn't come in, not even close by. It's the tinkling noise that draws her in. LOL!Woman LOL

We call the bathroom the "family" room.  All of our dogs have come into the bathroom.  We laugh about it.

Re: Do your dogs follow you into the bathroom?

I lost my dog over a year ago now but he used to follow both me and my son into the bathroom. He LOVED bathroom time! In fact, there are times that he would look into the bathroom, look at one of us and because we were wrapped around his big doggie paw, we decided ok, we need to use the bathroom now. lol. If he decided we needed to go, we went! He also went in with us for our showers. My house is small and he took up half the bathroom (our only bathroom) but he loved it so much that we didn't mind.

Of course, that's what dogs do.  I've had a parade of dogs and cats.  The cats played in the tub while I was busy.

Of my two present dogs, one has been somewhat of a brat.  I think he needed a job, so it's his responsibility to lead us to the bathroom.  I call him and say, "Piper, lead the way" and he struts off full of self importance.  We probably couldn't find the bathroom without him.

It has made a big difference in his behavior and attitude.

Our little one is adopted.  We're not sure, but we suspect that a prior owner may have kept him in the bathroom when they left home as he does not want anything to do with bathrooms.  Once I was holding him and went into the bathroom to put away something and he got so nervous and wanted to jump out of my arms.  So no, my little one does not follow us into the bathroom.
