How to you feel about breeders that do this? In my search for a golden pup,i have found so many breeders that do golden doodles, and there are labordoodles, just interested in your thoughts.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.

Re: Designer dogs

[ Edited ]

My rescue is a German Sheprador.  Excellent dog.  Cross between a GSD and Lab.  Beautiful big p r i c k ears, bushy lab tail (loves to swim), healthy confirmation.

Not to say that they are all like this.  He's all black with some hints of gold in the summer and he's remarkably handsome and incredibly intelligent.

Did I mention a perfect, non-oily and not much shedding tough coat?  Great dog instincts.

It's all in the breeding, I guess.  The search for a better mousetrap can lead to recessive genes.

Just my own personal opinion. No disrespect to anyone because I know my opinion is not a popular one.  With so many dogs in shelters or living painful lives, I am not sure that I am in favor of breeding in any form at this time.

That is really a tough question to answer.  A lot of people have benefitted from responsible, selective cross breeding with the goldendoodle being one example.

On the other hand IMO money driven back yard breeders do a lot of harm.

My oldest dog is considered a "designer dog", a Paperanian.  To me he is a Pomeranian and Papillon mix; a mutt of known breeds. If the breeder had not been shut down when she was he would have been euthanized because at four months and four pounds he was considered to be too big!

Which brings me back to a tough question to answer.  I detest creating a breed simply for profit but can't condemn the breeders that are responsibly working to create a breed that benefits people beyond having a certain look.

I thinks it's a personal choice which someone makes. I have nothing against that.

No, I don't agree with it.  Purebred dogs were created for a reason...hunting, retrievers, rodents, protection, herding, and so on.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't love one of my own as much as a purebred.

I am missing something here.  Aren't crossbreeds common in all domestic animals? Cows, horses, pigs?  I don't see that is a problem.

I treasure breeds of dogs and horses.  I would hate to think of the world without Cocker Spaniels, or Wire Haired Fox Terriers and many others.

I worry an awful lot that they will disappear because people only value rescue dogs now.  And frankly that is a problem that will never on this planet be solved.
