@HappyDaze wrote:@CatLoverDogsToo I feel your pain. My MIL gives her GSHP rawhides all the time despite my warnings. She also has fed him whole onions (thinks it is funny), peanut m&ms and other toxic things. Makes me ill. She thinks because her previous dog had the same things and still lived to age 14 then it is all just overreaction. She thinks I am ridiculous with my dogs and overprotective. Maybe so but I'd rather be safe than sorry and not see my dogs suffer needlessly because of my own, well, stubborness and, frankly, stupidity.
@HappyDaze Is this person in their right mind?? This is not only stupid, but is abuse. ....feeding toxic things to her dog. Sorry, this woman doesn't deserve a dog or any pet. JMHO
I agree @tends2dogs. Makes me ill.

@CrazyDaisy In the original message that I saw there were pictures posted of the undigested product. It was pretty scary.
The product is not digested till it reachs the stomach, not when lodged in the throat. I have a package of the salmon chews mentioned in the opening post. The ingredients are: salmon, vegetable gelatin, brown rice flour, organic eggs, olive oil, bananas and brmelain (pineapple). The chew softens when being chewed, it does not swell up. It is easier than rawhide to break pieces off and if your dog tends to swallow rather than chew it may not be appropiate for your dog. They keep my dogs busy for an hour, maybe. I watch them to make sure they are using the product appropriately, and take away pieces that they may swallow. It is up to the owner to watch their pets to make sure they are safe and the chew, toy etc are appropiate for the individual pet. I recently read a post about a dog choaking on a ball when playing fetch. It is not the balls fault it was not appropiate size for this dog.
@CrazyDaisy I responded to your first post. The ingredients you posted here are certainly digestable. I apoligize if I made it sound like you were giving your dogs inferior treats. That wasn't my intention.

I did not take it that way. While I do feel these are a quality product, definitely much better than rawhide, not every chew, treat or toy is for every dog. As dog owners it is our responsibility to determine what products are appropriate for our individual pet. I have one dog who tears apart stuffed toys and eats them. Toys advertised as indestructible just take him a little longer, I cannot take the manufactures word and not monitor his play.
I feel very sorry of the person who lost their dog, it was a very sad accident. The dog got a piece stuck in his throat, it could have been anything he had been playing with, eating or chewing on. First response is to blame a product, we all try to make sense of a tragedy. My issue is that with social media so many people are taking these kind of posts at face value and spreading them as fact concerning the product. While it is hard not to look at these stories emotionally, we need to be objective when determining what is best for our pets. There are enough dangerious products on the market we need to be concerned about without making some up.
