Remember I had posted about my golden retrievers right leg. How very sporadically she won't put pressure on it for a few seconds when she gets up. My mom has decided to go ahead and get xrays on her hips and knees. Her one knee has sounded like a knuckle cracking once in awhile so it's best to see if anything is going on. She will be having them next Friday.

Poor sweetie.. Hopefully it isnt anything serious, especially going for this long with the issue. Waiting so long could have made it worse. I am glad she finally is doing it

It hasn't gotten worse. Haven't even seen her limp after getting up for a long time. But she does sound creaky. I am sure it's nothing that will require immediate surgery. It isn't that bad. But it will let us know if we need to keep a eye on anything. The other day she wanted outside with my mom and niece. I swear she jumped up on me in my chair and off like 15 times because she was so excited. The way this girl does zoomies in tight circles and has never came up lame. It really is very sporadic when getting up. She stretches a lot when getting up, I haven't seen her do it for probably two months. I wouldn't be suprised either even though she is only two if she has a little arthritis starting.

I am glad you are going to get more info this way, Ccassaday, and I hope the x-rays show nothing terribly serious!

My dog still ran, hiked, jumped and played with a painful cancerous tumor on his leg joint (osteosarcoma, VERY painful form of bone cancer). I am not trying to scare you and not saying the dog has cancer or anything, not at all, just trying to say that we don't really know if they are in pain or how bad it is unless we get testing done. Dogs are MUCH more resilient than we are and don't show pain like we do. It is best to get the testing done and know for sure. Waiting longer can cause more damage or more issues, even if they dog doesn't seem like it is getting worse based on how the dog is acting. Dogs learn quickly to deal with the pain or deal issues they are experiencing much better than we do so it is often hard to know if things are getting worse for them when they don't always show us something is wrong. They are amazing like that, but it also makes it harder to know when to have them checked out.

I really am not concerned about cancer. She has been doing it off and on since August or sept. She would of been dead by now or have a swollen leg. When she went in April for her checkup vet even said there is no swelling. It could be a few things. She could have mild HD. I say mild because she jumps up and off things with no hesitation. She could have a luxtating patella in her knee. It is always a chance also that she has a slight tear in her acl that could tear if we don't rest her. My sisters lab has two fake knees. There is even a chance that it isn't anything and her leg is just going to sleep. My guess is there is a greater chance it's her knee or mild HD. She stretches a lot when she goes to get up. But she doesn't hop like a rabbit or use her front legs to get up. She is also not in any pain when you pull on it. She also has never limped after playing hard or tight zoomies. It seems to only be when she has been laying down for awhile. Just say a prayer for her tonight that everything goes well tomorrow.

Best of luck with Chloes X-rays today. Hope she has a comfortable visit and gets good results!

Well Chloe is home from the vet. She does indeed have HD. The vet said she can have the specialist look at them down at the vet hospital. She believes at this time since she doesn't seem to be in any pain that they won't do anything. She said to keep her weight at 62 lbs. She is very lean. And to keep her exercised. Making sure she doesn't lay around to much and we continue with her 2 mile walk everyday. She didn't mention any arthritis so that is very good news. We are to continue giving her the Dasquin joint supplement. If we notice any changes we can see the specialist at that time. Some dogs live long lives and it never really effects them enough where they need surgery. We need to find a place for her to swim this summer. But she is a very happy dog and it doesn't really seem to affect her.

Good for Chloe! I'm glad it's not something more terminal. You know what it is now so you can keep an eye out and act accordingly. It would not be a surprise if she does develop arthritis in that joint on down the line, but keeping her trim and excercised is the thing to do. Glad Chloe is home and happy.
