They are very high on the adorable scale but there is the heart issue.   Vets charge as much as doctors nowadays and vet specialists like a cardiologist cost even more.   I spent the past year dealing with a dog with serious medical issues,  saw a internist and had no surgery and the bill still came to just  under $10,000.  Then she had to be put down anyway.

I personally would not consider this breed for that reason.   There are many cute little dogs from which to choose.  My choice would be a miniature poodle... Smart,  non-shedding and personality plus.   Small but not too small.

Hate to say it, but this year, I spent over $15K on my dog's veterinary care.  Most of that money was spent on my beloved Lab ... she died anyway.

For that reason I would never get a dog known to have certain genetic/hereditary disorders.  Financially, I wouldn't want to go thru that again.

I would not knowingly go through that again either,  but the dog,  a smooth collie,  was a rescue from the seizure of 140 purebred collies in Tomball,  Tx.   As far as I know she was the only one with this condition which developed immediately after she was spayed.   With rescues,  you have no way of knowing what medical issues they might have or acquire.

When I purchased a collie from an outstanding breeder in 2005, I made sure he had every test possible including an eye check by an opthomoligist since collies are prone to eye problems,  thanks to the AKC.

By the way,  the medical bills for the Tomball collie were paid by Southwest Collie Rescue.   It was very sad to lose her but I made sure she had a year of love and spoiled her rotten.

p.s.  I just wanted to add that I got my gate at Babies 'R Us.  Baby superstores like that have a good selection.

I daresay you could get the same thing a lot cheaper at Walmart.

My friend and I meet the breeder, Sunday and Chloe will be coming home! I'm getting all the supplies including a puppy Kong,  got the Midwest adjustable crate for her " house " and a smaller plastic crate " Bed " for her to sleep with me for a while.😊  and transport to her Vet appointment Monday morning. It's happening!!  I'm feeling very confident and having all the supplies and healthy training treats makes it easier.  I still have to buy some baby carrots.

life is good right now and I'm feeling on top of the world! Good thing I called BEFORE Christmas or my little girl would have been gone.

I'm so happy for you!  When I got Frankie I had the breeder measure her neck so that I would be able to bring a collar for her when I picked her up.  Are you going out of town to pick her up?  Will you be spending the night?

There's also an etsy seller called Island Top Tags that sells dog tags that are a combination of metals.  She seals the tags so that they don't tarnish.  I haven't found another seller on etsy that does that, although there are plenty of others that sell the mixed metal tags.  If the seal ever starts coming off you can mail it back to her and she will reseal it for you.  The tags are really special.  You may not be into that at all, but just in case I wanted to share.

Make sure to ask the breeder to give you some of the food she's been eating so you can transition to your preferred food slowly without giving her diarrhea.  Will you be going out of town to pick her up?  I really am very excited for you.  It sounds like you found an excellent breeder, and Chloe will be a wonderful companion.  You will fall instantly in love.    You must be so excited!  I can't wait to see a picture of her.  I think rubies are really beautiful.  I've had two tri-colors, two blemheims and a black and tan.  I always wanted a ruby.

@NickNack

I can hardly contain the excitement !! My 89 year old Mom is thrilled, she cannot wait!! Last night she told me, she doesn't know why she never let us have a dog growing up. She was never around pets in her home.

Yes, breeder will give some food, I tried to locate what she uses...Call of the Wild, but that's not the name, should be Taste of the wild and then I didn't have the Flavor. Will get it right!

Breeder is is about an Hour north of me, all highway. I just hope Chloe doesn't get sick in the car, but my friend will be sitting next to her carrier to calm her. Plus stop and go movement will be better than city driving I would think.

Next 3 days are getting everything set up and puppy proof.

IT IS HAPPENING! 🐾🐾🐾

@Mustang Shar  Taste Of The Wild is a grain free food that is very high in protein.  This is just my opinion, but I don't think dogs need as much protein as the grain free foods have.  I also don't think there's anything wrong with dogs eating grain.  It's very rare that grains cause a food allergy in dogs.  I would just buy a super high quality food like Wellness or Fromm.
