I wish I knew something helpful about this. I was wondering though if the two cats might have got into a little fight. The neck would be a common area for the other cat to bite. We had a cat once that had an abscess on her back. The antibiotic alone did not do the trick. The vet ended up doing a little minor surgery (debridement) to clean it out. It did the trick. Your blind kitty is very fortunate to have you for a mom. Praying that your kitty gets well soon. ~ Madisson

I agree with this, had the same situation several times over the years with different cats. Keep an eye on the wound, watch for spike in fever or loss of appetite, or not drinking. Drinking lots of water is good when your cat is fighting infection and on antibiotics.
Our vet also had to do a debridement and that worked. Abscesses form so easily from a bite wound, all that bacteria, whereas a bump or scrape rarely gets infected. Wishing you and your kitty well, let us know how it goes.

This happened to a friend of mine's cat recently. He fell off the bed and hit the corner of the bedside table. The antibiotic ointment did work, but it took a while.

I've had lots of experience with abcesses over the years. Usually caused by a bite, but could be a deep scratch as well. Just make sure to keep it open so it heals from the inside out. It's been a while, but I remember getting an antibiotic ointment that I had to squeeze into the wound a few times a day. I've got a blind cat, too - actually, she has no eyes. Her name is Trouble and it fits her. Loves people, but not so much the other cats.

Our cat is also a house cat but she will go out on the deck once in a while. Stray cat came up on the deck and she got bitten on the back. Checked her out and thought she was ok. A couple of days later I felt an abcess on her back. Took her to the Vet. and he lanced it and gave her antibiotics. When he lanced the abcess my husbands hand was on the table in front of her and of course the lancing hurt and she bit my husband on the hand. The Vet told him to get a shot, he of course thought he would be all right. The next night I had him in the ER getting antibiotics for a red swollen painful hand.

My shelter kitty had this. I thought she was a bit stinky because she was living in an open space with about 50 cats. After a few days of being settled in, she was still stinky and when I came home from school she had a lump (sort of like where the Trapezius muscle is). We took her to the vet, and as she was shaving the area it opened and about a half a shot glass worth of pus came oozing out.
The vet said it was the worst she had ever seen. Kitty is semi-feral, so we were dreading the "nursing" aspect of this, but all we did was keep her separated from the other kitty (not related to her abscess) and she left it open to heal. She got an antibiotic shot (I was terrified we would have to give her pills/liquid) and it healed up just fine. She doesn't even mind nuzzling/being petted in that area. Her appetite improved greatly (thought it was just adjusting to her new surroundings) when the pus was drained. HTH

. Bootsie and her brother and sister were outdoor cats (we live on a farm), but at night we would put them in a shed to protect them from coyotes. Many years ago, our Bootsie was attacked by a vicious feral cat. By the time we were able to get outside, her little sister, Corky, went after the feral cat and we saw it run away. But, poor Bootsie had 15 bites and 8 of them got abcesses. You are so right about the odor. All 8 had to be lanced, drained, and treated. We kept Bootsie inside until they were healed, but it took a long time. So, I feel for your little cat. I hope good health comes soon and am sure all will be glad when it is healed.
