@monicakm - I didn't see the picture. I wish I had, but I wouldn't have been able to tell anything anyway.

I wish there was some way DH could see the picture. Are you on mellyg's forum? I'm not that active there any more - it's hard enough to get on here as much as I'd like! Anyway you can PM someone on that forum or just post it in the pet forum.

Emergency centers aren't inexpensive, especially if they're owned by one of the large companies that are swallowing the independent ones. Our favorite one lasted until last summer. Half the staff left. And don't think the veterinary specialists who work there get a lot of money! Sorry- I'll get off my soapbox now!

He said to not touch the incision- it will make her want to lick it more, and definitely not to use any substance on it.

OK, I won't put anything on it or clean it in any way.  I'm glad DH wanted to take her out to use the bathroom first or I would have seen your message too late.  We haven't let her go out on her own even tied up to the 40 ft light weight cable in the front yard, much less let her run out back in the pasture.

Sweet Frankie, is in jail Smiley Sad

Aww - she looks comfortable. I just showed DH! He said you're doing the best thing for her. Keep her quiet and watch her, and she'll be OK. She'll probably sleep a lot. Call your veterinarian first thing Monday.

I know it's hard. We want them to recover from surgery and not be in pain. None of ours has liked those collars either!   Smiley Wink

thank you@beach-mom.  I had to make a decision and the cost to go to the emergency vet was just literally open-ended. After the $150 they couldn't tell me anything. I'm keeping a close eye on her, I'm keeping her still and quiet. She's eating and drinking and her incision is not draining or bleeding.  I haven't taken her temperature but her nose is cool and wet and her ears do not feel hot

I know this is not terribly accurate but I don't have a doggy rectal thermometer.  I need to tell Google to put one of those on my shopping list. She got two new collars while I was at Tractor Supply today 🥰  off to check my email and Facebook again to see if her vet has responded to my plea for help.

@monicakm @I am not really up to date with ur dog or where the incision is, but when my dogs had a cone on, I put zip ties through the little holes at the cone base  and hooked them to their collar. Also put tape down the section where it snapped together. Hope this helps. Of course my dogs were big, don't know the size of ur dog.

@Rose429

Thank you,  that's such a good idea. We will do that tomorrow. She has been by side for hours and I've seen her try to lick the area just twice. I would rather her be in her kennel during this recovery but she's not as content in there and licks her incision more. So tomorrow we will do the cone as you suggested and she can stay in her kennel... but neither of us will like it 🫤

@monicakm,  instead of the E collar have you considered a "onesie" type fabric covering?  There is a wide variety available online but in this situation making your own with a T-shirt or similiar will do.

One of the easiest instructions for making a covering I've seen is at this website (  puppyleader.com/how-to-put-a-shirt-on-a-dog-after-surgery/ ).

T-shirt fabric or similar "jersey" type fabric works best.

The eyes through which you see others may be the same as how they see you.

I had not considered that.  You guys are a wealth of information Smiley Happy  I grew up with dogs and we've had them our entire married life but have been recently faced with some new scenarios.  NOT a new scenario...the Dingo has once again escaped Smiley Sad  This is happening all too often.

@monicakm - How's Frankie? At least it won't be long until your veterinarian can give you some advice! It's good she hasn't been licking it much. Please let us know how she's doing after you talk to them.

I have COVID right now, and it is not easy for me to avoid ours, but DH says it's best to do that right now.  I told DH that's one of the hardest things. They look at me when I go by. I tell them it won't be much longer- I hope! DH is making up for me.

Oh how hard!  I wasn't aware that we could pass Covid to our dogs (or any animal).  Having my dog next to me would be better than chicken soup! Smiley Happy

I wish I could get inside Frankie's head.  She seems perfectly fine except for being confined in her kennel.  I'm just glad it's BIG.  There is room for two Fankies.  She laid on the couch with me today to watch the KC football game.  I'm extremely upset with even more signs of incompetence.  Rashes where she was shaved.  I still have not put anything on the incision but did spray some of this on her rash.
