Oh so beautiful! Is that your garden? That's what mine looked like last year. This year I'm giving it a rest and just letting whatever flowers reseeded themselves come up.

Have you ever found Black Diamond watermelon at your grocery store? Black Diamonds are heirloom watermelons.

Black Diamond Watermelon is sometimes described as the 'king' of the garden, sometimes weighing 50 pounds or more. The bright red flesh is noted for its juiciness and sweet taste. Black Diamond is the quintessential watermelon of summer, and is equally popular with both home and commercial growers.

Known for their dark green rind. Usually without striations.

Limited availability in some areas of the US.

This concludes your lesson of the bestest watermelon 🍉

@butterfly123

I never heard of Black Diamond Watermelon - I just googled and it shows only how to grow them in your garden.  I usually just see personal small melon or the ones I have been buying which are seedless 13-15 lbs. Are they labeled prominently as Black Diamond much like heirloom tomatoes? Farmer's Market or your average supermarket

When I was a kid - there were only these long ones with many seeds. Funny how things have evolved. Tomatoes were only 4 in a cellophane pack. No plum, cherry, grape or heirloom.

Re: CALLING ALL PANCAKERS!!!!

@Yahooey

I tried searching the area I think you reside and didn’t find much info about Black Diamonds and where they are sold.

There is a website and app named Specialty Produce that tracks produce and what companies/grocery stores sell a specific produce item.

Usually the Black Diamonds are not tagged on the watermelon.

Another heirloom watermelon that is grown in a seeded or seedless variety is Crimson. Crimson is oblong as opposed to Black Diamond being round. Both are sweet, juicy and crisp.

Crimson is available for purchase before Black Diamond.

A farmer’s market may be the best place to find heirloom watermelon. 😊

Henry will be 14 this August and I

rescued him when he was 8 years old.

He was dumped at the shelter when he

was 7 years old by the sc*m family

a kitten because they just didn't want him

any more.Cat Mad
