I posted earlier about Ava's hair loss.  She had a biopsy yesterday, and the Vet sent it off to hear back ASAP.  She thought she might have an immune mediated disease.  Ava does not have an autoimmune disease.  I’m so relieved.  Here is what the report said about what she may have:

COMMENT
The findings are suggestive of an endocrine associated alopecia. Possible differential diagnoses include hyperadrenocorticism, hypothyroidism, or hyperestrogenism. The clinical picture is needed to differentiate these endocrinologic diseases. There is no evidence of infection, neoplasia, or significant inflammation.

We are now going to wait to hear back from her thyroid test, which will be sometime next week.  If that is negative we will test for Cushings and go from there.  The Vet said if she has hypothyroidism they will treat it exactly the same way that I treat mine.  I take levothyroxine every day and check blood work once a year.  That is what I'm hoping it is.

That is such a relief to hear.  I've been holding my breath, hoping for the best.  Well, not literally, but I was concerned.  Hypothyroidism will be so much easier to manage.  Good news indeed.

Wish you and Ava luck on this. I also take a pill a day for hypo. Let's hope that is all she will need.

My ten-year-old beagle is undergoing similar testing. They suspect liver disease, or kidney or heart or Cushings, so she needs more tests. After this annus horribilis, as the Queen once put it (horrible year), I fear another attack of bad news.

On Thursday, my husband and I will visit my brother and my 98 year old mother, both in NJ. My niece died three weeks ago and I must provide more support than a phone call or a text. Since my husband has Alzheimer's, and I hate NJ driving, I have hired a car and driver, a radical cashectomy, to do the round trip transportation. Given that we have spent nothing on vacations, we're still ahead in our usual travel budget.

I'm saying my prayers to Saint Francis that your sweet lil nugget Ava will be okay, and her health will be managed like her mom's - she's landed in the right lap after all.

@NickNack That's good to hear! I take the same med for the same reason. Thanks for all the updates on Ava, I know many of us have been concerned for her and for you.

Thank you everyone!  This is a major relief.  I'm just praying that it's hypothyroidism and not Cushings.  My sister's dog had Cushings, and it was managed well.  It was harder to give the liquid meds to her, though, and they were very expensive.
