@Love4cats    You agreed with anything Tinker had to say and that included happy the woman lost her money.  You sound very narrow minded.  "Adopt don't buy a pet" == that is a personal choice and who are you to dictate what people do.  So quit calling me names when you are the one making the rude remarks.

$700 for a kitten?  Yes, I know this sounds harsh, but I'm glad she lost her money.  She could have adopted a beautiful kitten at her local shelter and had $600 left to donate to that shelter for all the good they do.  Cat Very Happy

JMO, of course.   Cat Very Happy This is what Love4cats wrote in response:

I am with you, with hundred's of beautiful kitten's and cat's that need forever home's, why buy one when you can go to a local shelter and get one.

@Katcat1 Still not able to comprehend??? Well, guess if you can't, I can't help you!!!

Unbelievable to scold someone who lost money and was a victim of a scam.  No matter what YOU believe adopt vs purchase is up to the individual.  Who are YOU to decide what someone else can do?

I feel very sorry for her she not only lost her money but she also has to grieve over the loss of a pet she was most likely looking forward to.

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

I went through the same thing after my last Pom went to the rainbow bridge. I wanted a a Pom puppy. Where I live finding a Pom puppy at a shelter was impossible. I got a lot of "adopt don't buy" to the point it was like I was commiting a crime! My groomer knew a breeder and I did buy a puppy who is now 5 mo old. So happy to have found what I was looking for!

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

I'm sorry that happened to her. My own personal advice is never to purchase an animal you can't physically go see in person. And certainly while she might not get her money back, be much more mindful of the payment options for the future.

I paid via check in person (and met them) & got a receipt for the 2 kittens I adopted 2 months ago.

We can all have our own personal opinions on whether pure breeds or shelter pets are best, but unless you are paying for it, mind your own freaking business!! People can spend their own money how they want.

To chastise someone and "be glad" they lost money because of your own narrow minded views is just being a bully. Period.

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

There are so many scams like this involving pure breed dogs, cats, etc.  Very sad that so much money went to waste, but there are so many deserving cats who would love a good home (and they won't cost $700).  That said, I hope the scammer gets their just desserts for doing this to people.

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

As has been pointed out, the young woman in this situation wanted a cat, but is allergic.  A Devon Rex is one breed which someone with allergy problems can have.  And that breed is not very likely to be found at a shelter.

The same thing was in play for my friend's son.  He and his fiancee wanted a dog, but she had allergy issues.  They bought a poodle for the exact same reason.

Not everything is black and white, no matter how much people think everyone should "adopt, not shop".  All animals deserve a loving home.

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

Purebreed animals are available at animal shelters. Also at organizations that rescue certain breeds. Unless you intend to show an animal and need papers, there is no need to pay a big price for the animal of your choice. All the cats I have adopted were given to me and many were rescues. You will love them and they will love you just as  much "without papers."

Huh?  Where did you get the idea that I was deciding for that woman?

I have my opinion and others here have other opinions.  None of them are right or wrong, but just to be clear, I wasn't deciding anything for anybody.

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

When living in the big city we always adopted street strays..of course the were taken to the vet "for the works" before bringing them in.

I would never purchase an animal online. So many loving pets in shelters.

Now that we are much older we adopted to "older ladies" from the local shelter..The woman was thrilled because we asked for older cats..

Although our "ladies" hate each other..the house is big enough for them to stay clear of each other.

They are both sweethearts in their own ways...Now they are pampered princesses!

Re: Attn: Are Looking to purchase a kitten?

I would NEVER purchase a cat or any other animal. There are so many cats in shelters that need a new home.

I have a friend who recently purchased a Corgi. She went to see the dog IN PERSON and paid by check. That is the SMART thing to do. Using Zelle or any other payment method like it is OBVIOUSLY NOT a GOOD idea.
