@RespectLife , I would never give any thought to put her down because of bathroom problems. She is doing very well overall, and still active and attentive. Just aging issues which are to be expected. She just had another accident this morning, a puddle on the floor. Kinda my fault because I didn't stay outside with her this morning, and didn't let her out for about an hour and half, and she's on diuretics...my bad. I like your humor, I think that's a good attitude 😆.

My maltese is doing the exact same thing. Her poor little back legs are weak and she really tries to get up the stairs, sometimes she falls back down. She also seems to be walking sideways just a little and the vet told me the exact same thing, neurological with weak hind legs. Like yours, she was the most adorable little pup with a great personality. She's very attatched to me also, as her eyesight has diminished because of cataracts. But she's as sweet as ever.

Thank you @Dazlin , I like your attitude as well!
It hurt when people said that to us!
I have loved all my dogs no matter what!

Just putting this out there for anyone interested: There is a fairly new medicine for what I call "old lady bladder". My little gal Penelope (pug mix) started wetting at night and sometimes during the day. Our vet prescribed a med called Propin. She takes it twice a day and we noticed almost immediate results. I ran out and she didn't have it for a few days; had an accident.
This may not work on all dogs/situations, but you may want to check in with your vet to see if this is an option.

@CritterKeeper , good to know, thx! My only gripe with meds is the side effects. Teaspoon had to go on heart meds, and a diuretic...then we have to monitor her kidney's because they cause bad side effects...then they want her to take something else to counteract side effects, then change her diet, all because she's on meds, and so on and so on. Im learning to balance and consider the patient, and quality of life. I want her to be happy and comfortable, and enjoy what she can. Ive discussed this with my vet. I dont understand what good it is to feed her food she hates, and won't eat, and add more meds that make her miserable...just to prolong her life if its unhappy?? Ive found a healthy balance, she'll stay on heart meds, and diuretic...yes she'll have her little rawhide she begs for every day, and she's on a healthy diet that she's eating and maintaining her weight. She seems happier, and content. Ill continue to get up through the night if she needs to go out, and im accepting house accidents as part of the meds, and age related i guess. My dad has doggie diapers from his late poodle...ill hold onto them and use if I'm out long or things get worse. I do have licensed dog sitters that come when I'm gone long. Tough situation all around but I signed up for it with every pet I've owned. Thanks for your suggestion, its good to know.

Have the groomer give your dog a sanitary trim. That will help with the clean up after a diaper change.
I 💖 Sammies!!!!
They are such beautiful dogs!
If I could have a dog, it would be a Sammie.
