Re: 100+ Pounds Of Cat Food In My Laundry Room.

@CrazyKittyLvr2

Do you do TNR (Trap - Neuter {spay} - Return) with the cat colony?

Have you tried covering the humane trap with a blanket or tarp or something, to "hide" it so the matriarch cat won't see/recognize it, and just leave the opening uncovered?

Re: 100+ Pounds Of Cat Food In My Laundry Room.

@Anonymous032819   We have tried the traps covered, uncovered multiple times over the years. She is having none of it and she will not let anyone get near her.  Like I said, she is no dummy. You can just see her, "I know you are up to something" look.

We have trapped a few and my daughter takes them for spaying or neutering.

Our kitten population is way down over past years so we are making progress.

Beware!  That stuff, if not in a lidded metal container, attracts mice like a magnet, especially this time of year.  Tell DD to go to Walmart and get a metal (not plastic) garbage can.  They'll eat a hole through plastic...ask me how I know.  Or fill the laundry room with feral cat mousers.

i AM CONFIRMING  that Ms. Kach is correct.

THis happened to me, I had cat food in the garage in a plastic conainer, then it was open and I was like what???  I had to move all my food to inside the house.

Re: 100+ Pounds Of Cat Food In My Laundry Room.

I have a very dear friend who lives on a 30 acre farm.  She has a cat colony of over 120 cats.  She refuses to TNR because they tip their ears - says that is a horrible thing to do to a cat.  I said I assumed it was like us getting our ears pierced, but she is a know it all and says it hurts.  The colony, needless to say, is growing and growing each year.  I feel so bad for the cats - it isn't fair to them to keep adding more and more to their families.

@Kachina624  It's in very thick sealed plastic bags and the bags are in those ottoman containers with lids on them.

I must have gone bonkers last year because when she went through the QVC boxes I had, etc she found a lot of them.  There's no way anything can get in them.

You've heard the story about how my cat Jack brought me a live mouse as I slept?

I'm very leery of mice.

@Annabellethecat66

OMG!! The part about your cat bringing you a live mouse while you slept. I would have completely lost it.

I am such a scary cat when it comes to things like that.

Re: 100+ Pounds Of Cat Food In My Laundry Room.

For living in the country we rarely have mice.  Once in awhile in early winter we will get one of those little deer mice. We set traps and they are gone.

You would think having a cat would help.  Nope, Tess cannot be bothered. Years ago my DH declared, "Jane, your cat just sat and watched a deer mouse run by the basement door and didn't move"

@fthunt

I just went on to QVC and purchased two of those kits that you recommended item #F13742. I have not seen any, and I would absolutely fall out if I did, but my neighbor has told me that they have caught a lot in their Garage. To be fair, they have kids and the garage door is always open. We have a new home development going up around us. In fact directly across the street is one of the new phases and my pest control guy had already warned me to be prepared. He knows what a chicken Shi* I am.

Lord, please let this product keep me from seeing anything. (smile)

Ok, so after reading about the Mice and Larva problems. I am going to find something to clean in my house. It's already clean, so perhaps I will do some dusting. Reading  this thread although amusing makes me wish I could just steam clean my whole home right now.  (smile)

@icezeus  Well....I think if you'd seen me jump out of bed when the @#$ ran down under the covers when I sat up!  You'd know I was shocked and (for a minute) didn't know what it was!  Ha!
