My daughter recently asked me who is a maternal grandmother. I told her it would be the person's grandmother on the mother's side of the family. She said it was the mother's grandmother. Which is correct?
Thanks!

@this is my nic Your daughter's maternal (you) grandmother would be **your** mother. Maternal refers to a mother's side.
Your grandmother is her maternal great grandmother.
She sounds a wee bit confused, but you are correct.
