Did your company just say goodbye to the older employees the right way? http://www.eeoc.gov/

I would go to the SSA office. You do not call them. You can get information from their site about benefits. You just can not sit until your are 62 and collect early benefits. You need quarters in your work record to qualify for Medicare and a your allowance.

Unemployment insurance.

COBRA health insurance. Life insurance connected with your package.

Please read all papers from your sudden retirement.

https://www.benefitscheckup.org/ Because you are more than 55.

I agree.

COBRA isn't the only alternative for health insurance...in fact, it's probably the most expensive (and only lasts for 18 months).

Becoming unemployed is an exception to the open enrollment for ACA insurance that ended on 2/15.

Based on unemployment income, you can probably get good premium assistance - plus also maybe CSR (reduced deductibles and co-pays). Just call the insurance company you have now to check out your options.

When I quit my job in Nov. 2013 - COBRA would have been $850 a month. ACA insurance started out at $240 a month for me with no deductibles - then as I started getting commissions from the business I started, I gradually went up to paying the full premium - $424 for a great plan. $424 was still HALF of what COBRA would have cost me!

Most people don't get 6 months pay, and a bonus for working 6 years. I wouldn't rush to marry the boyfriend. Is there a reason? Unless he has good health insurance. Op probably won't get Unemployment with 6 months pay and bonus.

When TWC was on a reorganizing binge, getting ready to sell to Comcast, they dissolved our production department and all the producers were let go. Most of the employees were there for 20+ years...a few for 30+ years!

They received one month's pay for every year they were there, mainly to make sure they didn't file for age discrimination (most were 50+ as well). By signing off on the settlement, they gave up their right to sue.

I can see getting 6 months pay for 6 years work - especially to stop a discrimination lawsuit.
