When my kids started their 2nd year of college, we changed things so my kids were independent and FAFSA was based solely on their income.  If you do that, keep the account in your name.

I believe to be eligible for scholarship money it has to be filled out. That is even for scholorships not income based.

Not true for merit based scholarships, don't know about income based scholarships.
