In case it hasn't been mentioned yet, and if someone is thinking they have to get a puppy because only puppies will bond to you, that is a bunch of malarkey. Yes, indeed, marlakey and hooey and all sorts of other words like that.
I'm not here to pat myself on the back but I have only adopted older dogs (like 6 and older). They have all bonded with me so very, very well. I could not have asked for better companions.
This is not just to the original poster, but anyone who is wondering about bonding with an older dog. Older dogs will bond with you just fine.
