Which is what often happens to the registry gifts. People doing something for the first time (like having a baby) know they need certain things, but they tend to go completely overboard on things (like too many clothes, onsies etc.) that will never be used, and outgrown in a matter of months.

 

Never be afraid to use your experience and wisdom to step outside the box and surprise them with something they didn't even think to ask for, or even be aware that they would need or use so much.

 

Again, if you don't know them well, the registry is helpful. If you do know the situation well, use your discretion.
