I have worn this skirt a lot and have paired with all kinds of different tops. You can't go wrong with this low price.

@vickybliss

What color do you have?  I agree about the price...an unusual piece made by the best under $30!!  It was worth the risk.

I don't have this and vaguely remember it when it was new.  I'm going to try the tarragon, see how it will work out with a more casual look:  chunkier sweater and boots, with my olive Linea trench coat for the fall.  Of course it would also be great for a more dressy/casual look as they show it in the video.

The fabric is gorgeous and is exactly the sort of print and luxe look that is everywhere for fall in the fashion ads.  I can always turn it into throw pillows or a scarf  as the fabric is so rich, unique, beautiful. I think a longer top would cover the uterine x-ray nicely......!I Great price too.

Yes, I'm hoping I can get away with a more casual look...it looks dressier than my lifestyle warrants LOL!  But, I was thinking ahead to the holidays, too.   Let me know what you think when you get yours!

MacDuff,

     I have the top and skirt in the tarragon and love them both.  The fabric does have some stretch to it due to its 97% Polyester/3% Spandex fabric content.  It is a lighter weight velour, but I really like it, since I like to layer things anyway.  Any heavier and I don’t think it would drape as nicely as it does.  The print is clear and lush—not muddy--very luxe looking.

     I think that either the black or the violet Whisper Knit swing tops would be great with this skirt since it has a long column effect (see video links and photos below).  You will be one elegant looking Linea Lady if you pair either of these tops with this skirt!

     My top and skirt do not have the weird pattern effect that mentioned earlier.  That must have been some sort of one-time manufacturing defect.  I have not heard anyone else report anything like that in the years that I have owned the top and skirt.

     I have found that my top and skirt go well with various colors of whisper knits and a tweed jacket (A228371) that I got from the same season

     I also can wear the skirt with the green leather jacket (A228554) and a turtleneck for a more casual look.  I think Louis showed the black and purple skirt with the black leather jacket and a violet and black herringbone jacket.

     So you can see how these garments look on real people and also how Louis has put them together with other items, here are the two on-air presentations for both the skirt

and the top

     For what it's worth, I thought you might want to see some things from Louis' site that feature the pieces we have been talking about and how he coordinated them.

“OCTOBER SNEAK PEEK # 7”

Published on October 1, 2012 in From Louis. 22 Comments

“October Sneak Peek # 7” is my STRETCH VELVET print top, A228336. The prints have a flavor of BAROQUE and RENAISSANCE art all combined. The colors are saturated and rich and the velvet gives even more dept to this “luxe” and very European print. I wanted these particular prints to be worn with both the  TARRAGON and WALNUT “TWEED” jackets and the new solid jackets that I will be showing on my October 19th show…..the BLACK PRINT and the others, will work right into your existing wardrobes.

The colors for the tops are ……TARRAGON, WALNUT and BLACK……. The Tarragon has shades of tarragon, olive, sienna, brown and black…..all the colors that are in the TARRAGON TWEED. The Walnut has shades of deep rust, topaz, aubergine, black and naturally, walnut brown. Again, the colors were picked to blend with the WALNUT TWEED jacket. The BLACK has pearl gray, violet, fuchsia, navy, and black. As you can see in the photos above, it looks w0nderful with the new VIOLET jacket and for those who love to mix it up….wear both, the jacket and top, with the VIOLET HTC SKIRT. The top measures approx. 26 inches long for the XS. It is a polyester/spandex fabric and therefore is washable and has LOTS of stretch. It has a draped V-neckline and then is smooth to the hem…..It has LONG SLEEVES that can easily be pushed up. This is truly a DAY to NIGHT piece, and definitely can be worn with a pair of jeans or the new WK pant in BLACK, WALNUT, or TARRAGON.  Actually, there isn’t a bottom you can’t wear….Wear the tarragon sunburst pleated skirt, tweed jacket and velvet top for work or a special occasion……for a more casual attitude…wear the two pieces with jeans, boots, great tortoise sunglasses and spend a Saturday antiquing or going to yard sales. The color beads and earrings are COMING SOON!!!! In case you didn’t notice the photo on the upper left there is also a matching long skirt…….but that’s the next sneak peek! I think this top will  also attract those who are not “print people” It is a subtle print and depending how you move and catch the light….it can sometimes meld into just color. What I always try to do is….extend your wardrobes by offering you pieces to change things up so there is always a new and fresh way to wear what you own…..yes, you can always wear the tweeds with a solid something, but it is so nice to have just the right print…. in just the right colors…. to pull it all together and give it that special “Designer Look”!

Since these prints work so well with many things from the Sept show…..I am working with my buyer to get these pieces, the velvet print top and skirt, on the Linea web site ASAP…….they are in the warehouse so why wait for the show to make them avail. ALSO…..we are trying to get the “shabby chic” cardigan on line ASAP too. I know there are many of you who wanted it and the weather is now perfect, in some areas, for just this type of sweater….keep an eye out….we are hoping to have them posted within the next few days!

……………………I hope you Enjoy!…..much Love……Louis

“OCTOBER SNEAK PEEK # 6”

“October Sneak Peek # 6”, is my STRETCH VELVET LONG SKIRT, A228337. It is the same print, colors, [Walnut, Tarragon and Black], and fabric as the A228336, velvet top. The skirt is 33 inches long and has a slight A-Line shape…..not too much, just enough to be able to take a good stride without the need of a slit. It has a FULL ELASTIC WAIST BAND, so it has no zipper….just pull in on. This skirt has ALL the attributes of the velvet top…..it works with the tweeds…. plus sweaters and jackets you may already own. It can be casual with boots and a jean jacket…..somewhat more dressy with a leather or suede jacket and dressier still when worn with the matching top for a two piece dress look…..great for women who require different sizes top and bottom. I think the photos above will give you a true and accurate idea of the way it drapes and will look on the body. These will be the only velvet pieces I have done for this Fall/Winter season, so I hope you find them interesting, and something that you feel will definitely add to and expand your existing  wardrobes………….Enjoy, much Love……Louis

Hope this information helps.  I think you will be very happy with your purchase.

@Writer with Flair

Thank you so much for the detailed response!  However...

This isn't going to work out the way I planned.  The proportions are thrown off, IMO, with the violet swing pullover and the fuschia seam front sweaters (altho, both colors look good with the black) and I don't want to buy something especially for the skirt.  It fits in the small (a shocker), but is snug and just slightly too short.  Also, I can hardly even see the pattern, especially in certain light!!  Some of the pics you posted must have been shot under the brightest klieg lights!

I'm thinking of making a scarf out of it, but it'll depend on how much my tailor will charge...even in a scarf, the pattern will hardly be seen.

@author

Did you get yours?  I do think it would work with a shorter, chunky sweater and, I don't know your measurements, but would be a nice maxi length for shorter women.

Thanks to all for responding!  You win some, you lose some.

@MacDUFF

Sorry it didn't work out; sometimes, well many times really, it is so hard even with videos and photos and closeups to see what it will be like in person, then to get the fit right, very challenging.  I am 5'4" so it will be a maxi for me.

Mine did not arrive yet.  I will post when I get it and decide; it's in the tarragon and I hope that color palette will show the design a bit better than the darker shades.  I also think it will go casual more easily, but again, have to wait to see it and try it on with options.

My cat would love it folded at the foot of the bed for his naps.  I know the feel of soft folded velvet would work for him at least!

MacDuff,

     What a bummer that the black/purple combo skirt print pattern is barely visible.

     The Tarragon does have some lighter colors (gold, rust, and a light green) next to the darker tarragon color, so maybe that is why the pattern looks brighter and more intense than the one you have.

     Making a scarf out of it sounds like a good idea.  You can always sell it on ebay.

Ladies, I'm so glad I checked in on this thread! After seeing the photos @Writer with Flair posted, I recognized my tweed jacket in them and then looked at the velvet pieces you were discussing. How did I miss that long skirt? I just ordered both the top & skirt in the tarragon. I was surprised that so many sizes were still available at that price!!

You were talking about wearing this velvet less dressy...I'm planning to wear the skirt with a denim shirt, leather belt & boots. I can get away with that here in the West, but maybe you can try it. I'll also wear the skirt with a turtleneeck and denim jacket and with the tweed jacket I own (even have that necklace!!) Could be a great outfit for the holidays, especially Thanksgiving--perfect colors.

Thanks all for the inspiration! I've got myself a new outfit at a steal Smiley Happy

Re: Wayback Machine: Do you own this?...

My tarragon velvet skirt arrived and it is stunning!

The print shows well but not too busy, colors rich and saturated, and the drape and flow catches the light like very rich velvet should.

It's too hot and I'm too tired out to start trying it on with other things today but I just know it will be fine, either dressed down with casual things, or elegant as well, very easy to work with such a sumptuous piece.

Forget making it into throw pillows just yet; I'll be wearing this come fall.
