I ordered The Dell'Olio sweater A294607 about 6 or 7 weeks ago, so I may have worn it perhaps 6 times. I noticed yesterday that the underside of the sleeves have pilled rather badly. I'm disappointed because I really like the sweater. Anyone else experience this problem with this particular garment?

@Carolm. The sweater is 75% acrylic and acrylic is a fiber that often pills. Buy yourself a sweater razor/shaver, if you don't already have one, and it'll soon be good as new.

I stay away from acrylic--pilling and stretching out of shape as you wear it!

@fortuneand @Kachina624. Thanks for your replies. I was just surprised that a Linea garment would behave in this manner. Guess I can't assume that his garments are any better than anyone elses, just because of his name.

@Carolm The best cashmere and animal fur will shed and pill in hot circumstances. It is the underarm thing (you know where you get hot and the seatbelt that creates friction across your chest). Get yourself a shaver and be aware that any fiber under the right cirumstances can and will destruct if given the right amount of heat.
It's listed in the latest edition to Murphy's Law.

@Nonametodaythanks for your reply. This sweater pilled between my elbow and wrists -- no heat here.

Any time you have two pieces of fabric rubbing against each other - you stand a good chance of getting pills.
If anything rubs against a fabric (like a seat belt, or a textured handbag) ... you stand a good chance of getting pills. I ruined a brand new top when carrying a straw bag.
As others suggested - a fabric shaver is a must-have.
How to Select Clothes That Will Not Pill
While there is no promise that a fabric will never pill, there are some tricks that will keep your clothes looking their best longer.

@Carolm If you rubbed your elbow or wrist against something or rubbed held your arm in a flexed position and moved it back and forth, that will do it. Advice about fabrics and shaver is great advice. Anytime I wear my cashmere sweaters, I have to shave under the arms and I bought one of those gizmos for my seatbelt that prevents that pilling. I think I got mine at Amazon but you can get them at Walmart or any automotive place, I expect. They look like furry slippers.

Pilling will happen I own several 100% cashmere sweaters purchased from Saks and Lord & Taylor years ago that pill on the sides where my arms mostly rub but once I found out about the sweater shaver or the sandpaper sponge that took care of the pilling and didn't damage the actual material which is important.

Oh boy. I purchased all of those sweaters and wore the navy first. It pilled like crazy after being washed. Yes to the shaving gizmo, I'm glad I got the message on the blue and am very careful of the other colors. Mine pilled so badly I ordered another one a couple of months ago in navy so I could wear it over dark Linea navy skirts and turtlenecks. without worrying that I missed a bunch of pills somewhere when I want a clean and sharp more dressy outfit. I feel your pain. I continue to be very careful with mine.
