Its been years and years since I have been camping. Thinking back when the kids were little we would take pancake mix (only need water), honey, peanut butter, apples, grapes, oranges and canned veggies. Trying to keep fresh veggies fresh is not always easy in hot weather. Premake the hamburger patties and freeze before taking. And of course the makings for s'mores. What's camping without s'mores!

What kind of camping are you referring to? The word camping covers everything from a tent and cooking over an open fire to a half million dollar motorhome. Can you be more specific ? when we are home in Pa. Amish country living in our camper we buy as much as we possibly can from the local farmers and generally eat fresh fruits and vegetables more than anything else. This is one of the joys of going back to Pa. every summer for us.

I like to make tons of aluminum foil packets containing a chicken breast, corn, green pepper, onion, and barbecue sauce. Freeze them and cook within a RV in the oven or on a grill. They're quick and easy at home too.

I don't pretend to be an authority on camping, but I would imagine it would be helpful to have space saving or double duty gadgets, like this measuring one from Pampered Chef.

Also:

a sharp, large knife

a good manual can opener

a large pot for boiling corn, making soup/stew, seafood

a collapsible colander

Squish 1 Quart Collapsible Colandar

a well seasoned cast iron skillet (if you want to cook on the campfire)

collapsible bowls (or nesting bowls)

Lock N Lock containers with lids (or similar storage/prep containers)

Squish 3 Quart Collapsible Bowl

a stoneware baker or tray, like this one (I use it all the time)

a pitcher for making tea, serving water, etc.

a non-stick skillet

all purpose seasoning blends

cereal keepers or dry storage containers for things you use most often

tongs

metal serving utensils that can be used on an open flame

silicone pot holders

a grill basket for veggies-

if you grill meats, perhaps metal skewers for kabobs

a butter dish

Here in Ca. We can go year round (we just got our first rain in months). We took our RV to the desert two weeks ago (alot of Canadian snow birds go for the winter). I want those gravity free recliners. I would like string lightsfor the awning. I love my mini Keurig. We keep it simple for food, I am on vacation and dont want to spend my time in kitchen. Muffins, cereal, instant oatmeal for beakfast. I do alot of cokking ahead, made nice omelet and put in plastic container so I can heat in microwave. Sandwiches for lunch. Bbq for dinner. I love to get away with nature, but I dont go for the food. My friend has boy scouts and those campers can cook in a campfire, make cakes and all. I think theres a Boy Scout cookbook We started out tent camping newlyweds (as long. as I am with you honey), then tent trailer with kids, now RV (with shower and toilet).

Sliced pre-cooked ham is great because it can be used in a multitude of recipes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. A big plastic ware container of pasta salad is very handy to take.

I love that Pampered Chef measuring cup. One side is to measure solids and the other side is for liquids. It's a cup size, so not too big. I would recommend it to anyone.

Depends on what kind of cooking you'll be doing (campfire vs cooking inside your unit or grilling). Will you be gone sightseeing all day or staying in camp. DH & I camp in a pull-behind trailer & we camp in upscale parks in Northern Michigan. We plan our menus before we leave, allowing one day to eat food purchased locally (usually fish). We take our crockpot, have a small Weber grill, plus a stove & oven inside our camper. We eat pretty much the way we do @ home, but that's the way we prefer it.
