Generally I can't wait to get produce and such OUT of plastic, and transfer to glass containers as soon as I get home.  I am not inclined to store food in plastic that has been sucked in so close to the food it practically becomes a part of it.  I don't really care if it lasts three days longer in the fridge.

TY for your input to all. I get the most useful advice and help on these forums--people who have used the items. Wow, there are a lot of choices out there. I am leaning toward a rechargable small device by foodsaver. I am limited for storage.

@Nightowlz lettuce storage sounds promising . I guess I will need to experiment. It seems that when I am ready for a salad I go to the fridge prepared to make a salad and there s some brownish green produce. I used to ask DH to go pick up a fast food salad , but now practically need to mortgage the house to buy a sad looking salad.

I saw a you tube of someone claiming they preserve bananas a bit longer using this item ,but need to stop it early. -??

Freeze sliced bananas on a cookie sheet. Vacuum seal after frozen. I use them for smoothies.

If they are not frozen you would have to stop the sealer to seal before it mashes the bananas.
