If it doesn't apply to you then there's nothing to wonder about. If you're living away from home and have no family then it's nice to get together with others who are alone. Simple as that. .

I do not have any kids or siblings. My husband has a son. Sometimes said son is on call and cannot travel to FL to see us. Living in a 55+ environment has made us very aware of the lonely folks who have no one. Therefore for years I have invited all of those that have no family to join us. We have neighbors over as well as a cousin that lives nearby come as well. Thanksgiving to me is one of those holidays where everyone is welcomed. No religious connection and the older we all get the better I feel about helping out those that are lonely. No one should spend holidays alone, unless they really want to

I am 66 abd gave been doing this for 20 years. Friendsgiving....

I totally get your point and I'm not even sure of what Friendsgiving is....lol

If it's another big meal with all or some of your friends right after Thanksgiving, most likely I'd serve leftover turkey and other fixings. I also have a tray of lasagna because there's some who don't like turkey....sooo, if there's any of that left....

I LOVE hosting friends, but I'm not cooking a whole nuther meal right after Thanksgiving. I still have family staying here and we love to go shopping in town on Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday, too.

If there can be Christmas in July, then I say lets have Friendsgiving in August. A barbeque!

I think you are making my point. We've been alone many Thanksgivings, far from family. Sometimes we made turkey sandwiches and had a picnic on the beach, other times we were invited to a friend's home for their Thanksgiving and there were times when we had everyone to our house for Thanksgiving Day. We never called it anything but Thanksgiving. I guess I don't understand the distinction.

I think it's great! I first heard of it maybe 15 years ago when my kids were in college. Both would do a "Friendsgiving" with their college friends. Then when they graduated they continued for a while as a nice get together with their friends.

I think it's also very nice for those who don't have family. Sadly there are many who don't. Some celebrate with friends.

As for me, one Thanksgiving with extended family is enough

Not redundant @house_cat . My daughter has celebrated Thanksgiving with her high school friends for about 20 years. Although I know the "kids" well and love them, they spend their actual Thanksgiving day with their family. So, she celebrates with them, usually the weekend before, and have a great time.

They also celebrate Christmas with a party in December. With them all having kids, jobs and their own families it's become difficult for them all to get together within a couple weeks apart. So, now they have a Friendsmas, Thanksgiving and Christmas combined.

I think it's wonderful she still connects with her friends from high school, some from Kindergarten.

Some people may not have family around anymore so they celebrate the holiday with their friends.

@Sooner thank you! This little girl is a tough one for certain. She had major cardio surgery and has had two good nights! I send her positive thoughts everyday day! Happy thanksgiving to you and your family and friends! I'll be in fat pants! lol

@house_cat - DD goes to three. The first one is a group of her close high school friends. They have been doing this since college, when some stayed home and some were away. Now they don't get to see other that much.But they all make this day a priority.

The second is a mixed group, with girls she went to high school with and others who have socialized with the host since. Now these girls all know each other!

The third is a work group.

They never have it on Thanksgiving, but usually the weekends before. Everyone brings a dish. For the first one that has been going on a while, they all have their "signature" dishes the host asks for every year.

They all have their own family Thanksgivings. It's basically a fun time and dinner with friends. I've never been to one, but it sounds like fun!
