pioneer woman and french fries

I watched her show yesterday, and she was using a gadget to cut her french fries, does anyone know what exactly she is using? I went on Amazon and most of those things are poorly rated.

Not that there's any accounting for her tastes, but my Granddaughter is a passionate PW & RR fan. She has both of the french fry cutters that PW uses. One is a Sabatier that has 3 sizes of blades and a container to hold the cut fries. She fills the container with ice water and slices right into the water. The other one is a 'Culina', the one with the stainless steel handle, NOT the one with the plastic handle.

I cut fries with a knife. They don't have to be exactly the same, but I come pretty close. Also, this way, one can make shoestrings, wide, flat fries, any size and shape you want. If you have to have a gadget, a mandoline is the best.

Thanks, I too use a knife but when there are lots of potatoes, those gadgets sound nice.

I don't have one of those gadgets but recently got a new mandolin from HSN which is the 3rd one I've ever bought and finally I have a really great one. It has a guide that helps hold the ""holder"" in place to make slicing easier. It has a waffle slicer option so I use that to cut potatoes into waffle fries and use my Actifry to cook them in. This makes the best ""fries"" ever with only 1 tablespoon of oil. I have to control myself not to make these more than once or twice a month!

Tell me more about those dry fryer things. How do they work?

And what is the name of the mandolin you like? I've looked at them for a long time. . . I want a SAFE one!

THANKS for any info!

Re: pioneer woman and french fries

Best thing for long uniform frys are those heavy duty potato smasher things that you mount on a 2x4 like out in your garage. You place whole potato upright in it, bring down the handle and the frys fall into a basket you have hanging underneath it. A professional item that can only be bought at places that sell camping supplies like Bass pro, etc.

have to have some arm power to bring down the handle to split the potato into frys, but, well worth it. I caught on to this when I was at a fund raiser cook out and saw the guy using one asked where he bought it, told me cost around 100 think it was, but, will last forever and the only one you will ever buy. Maybe I can upload a picture.
