Typically I do not use parchment paper but I am wondering if I can line a

9 x 13 baking pan with the paper including enough overhang to grab onto...once the cake is baked..I want to take the cake out in one piece.

I think the parchment paper will allow me to do that....am I correct?

thanks

Re: parchment paper and baking

Maybe. If the cake is throughly cooled perhaps. Never tried this myself. Sounds risky.

I always butter & flour a 8.5" cake pan, then line bottom with parchment paper. Let the cake cool, take a knife around the edge, turn it over and it comes out without breaking or incidence.

Re: parchment paper and baking

It's an awful lot more difficult to turn out a 9x13" cake than a 8 or 9" round one.

I would say that putting the parchment paper like the OP mentioned would be perfect.  That way you don't have to try and turn it over.  Unless you have some extra hands, that would be near impossible.  Smiley Happy

@chickenbutt you are correct about turning out a 9 x 13....plus there is a topping on the cake and turning it would be a huge mess.

I will give my method a try, fingers crossed.

I'd just make sure that the overhang for removing it is on the long sides of the pan, so as to get a better hold on it.  Smiley Happy

I think I would overhang it both ways, and try to get someone help me get it out!  @Mom2Dogs ...... good luck!

Perfect idea!  Smiley Happy   I didn't think of that because I usually would have to do something like that by myself.

Re: parchment paper and baking

A friend discovered parchment paper a couple of years ago and she loves it for everything she bakes. The easy of taking whatever it is out or off the baking pan and the ease of clean up. She does leave enough of the paper hang over the sides of a cake pan so she can easily hold the paper and take a cake out without breaking it and it doesn't stick in the pan and fall apart. There's always that one spot that sticks no matter what you use to coat the pan.
