That looks intriguing. Wonder how long it takes.

@raspberrygal

No but I'm sure my ancestors did lol.

Have never done a turkey but will use our Showtime Rotisserie for a chicken; however we mostly use the rotisserie for a prime rib at Christmas / New Years.

Great if the electricity goes out.

Our favorite way to do turkey is a large Spanek ( similar concept to beer can chicken); can work with or without electricity, I suppose.

Who would want those drippings in the bottom of the fireplace?

We have never done a turkey way, but we have cooked whole lambs and pigs outside over a fire pit many, many times.

When I was 13, a man and his three sons were given permission by my parents to cook a pig on an open fire on our land that bordered our house.

Of course, my siblings and I were curious and came out to watch.

As luck would have it, I married the youngest son years later.  My FIL told me my husband said he was going to marry me the first time he saw me.

Who knew my fate was sealed that day?

We once had neighbors who cooked pigs in their huge big enough to walk in fireplace in their family room for Christmas.

One year, on Christmas Eve their house caught on fire.  I understand there was a crack in he bricks somewhere in the fireplace  and grease got in there and caught fire.

Where I am from, many people cook on open fire pits for Christmas.
