Re: looking for a good rolling pin

@sunshine45  The best oneI ever found was the

Lasten Pastry Pizza Baking Roller Pin, Non Stick Wood Rolling Pins for Baking(H-Shape).

It is much easier to control the thickness of any dough.  Tried to post picture but this is from Amazon.  I got mine from Pampered Chef.

Re: looking for a good rolling pin

I don't have a name brand to suggest but I make my fair share of cut out sugar cookies and I have a rolling pin that has thickness rings to keep the thickness consistent.   There are three different sizes to pick from....they snap on to the handles of the rolling pin.

Probably a quick search would bring up what I am talking about.

Re: looking for a good rolling pin

I just like a plain wood rolling pin. Mine's about eighteen inches long and an inch and a half in diameter. I believe it's made out of maple. It's just perfect as a rolling pin for me. If I'm rolling out something I want extremely flat (like a pie crust) I use spacers under it. A yard stick I cut in half is what I use for pie crust. I put one on either end of my pastry board with the dough between the two and then plop the rolling pin down atop the yardsticks (which are about 1/8" thick and roll away. Perfectly flat, even pastry dough.

My wife wanted a new rolling pin so she checked out amazon. She ordered a stainless steal rolling pin. I'm not sure what name it is but she loves it way better than wood. She said it doesn't stick like wood does it clean easy and can go in the dishwasher. Its at least 18 inches long . it was well worth the money. Don't remember how much but it wasn't expensive.

I have a silicone rolling pin that I think I got from QVC about 10 years ago. I like it much better than my old wooden one, but I still have to flour it before rolling out the dough. I just wash it under running water with a soapy sponge, rinse and dry it off. I may look at the metal one @Pooky1 mentioned.

I think I purchased the same one.  I do prefer it over wood.

My son gave me a marble one, works good but is heavy.

Re: looking for a good rolling pin

The best rolling pin that I have found is one that was my GrandMother's it is made of glass and you can put ice cubes inside it .  She may have bought it in the 1950's or 1960's.

Etsy has a 1950's vintage pyrex glass one from England $48 that you can fill with ice water.  WayFair has a glass one that can be filled with ice water $30 .

Re: looking for a good rolling pin

I have 2---a ceramic one from Temptations and a silicone one for Kitchenaid. I use them both depending on what I'm baking. They are many years old and still look like new.
