Interesting. If they are different I would have expected the flour to be in the brownie and not the lemon bar. I love lemon so am happy to have new things to try!

I live in Western New York frozen tundra and never thought I could grow a lemon tree! I can never even find Meyer lemons in the stores...just ugly regular ones.

Any info and advice would be so appreciated!!

Well this is year no. 2 for my little tree. Yes its inside in a pot and so far its about 30 inches tall including the pot which is about 12 inches tall. I put it in a south window in the fall/winter and move it to the patio for the summer. I found it in a local nursery in the "sale"section two years ago in the fall. It was such a good price that I figured what the heck! I then did some internet digging on the care and feeding of it and except for that first winter I've gotten about a dozen lemons. Of course they all come at once! I found out that when the blossoms appear in the spring (they smell divine, btw) I have to pollinate them with a q-tip as its too early to put the tree outside! They grow slowly too, which is good. Hope this helps.

How fun, I would love to have a little lemon tree! I adore lemons, that flavor is so refreshing and they can be used so many ways. The cost of lemons seems to have gone up in my stores, so it's nice you have an abundance of them. Both the recipes for lemon brownies and the bars sound good. Have you considered making candied lemon peel? Also, if you like vodka you could make your own homemade Limoncello liqueur. They say when life hands you lemons make lemonade, you should be set. Smile

Instead of lemon curd - take it to the next level. Dorie Greenspan's Lemon Cream Tart is the best. The recipe for the lemon cream comes from Pierre Hermé, pastry god of Paris. Dorie co-authored his English baking books. The butter is blended in after the curd is cooked, creating an emulsion similar to a mayonnaise. It is divine. All of the top patisseries in Paris use this type of filling in their tarte au citron.

You can squeeze them and freeze the juice in ice cube trays.

Pick them......send them to me....Then I will tell you if they are good enough for you to waste your time to make recipes that call for lemons, which being up North, I will promise you that they will not be worth it, so I will dispose of them properly in my stomach....I mean I will throw them to the foxes.........{#emotions_dlg.sneaky}

I make homemade lemoncello every year with the lemons from my lemon tree. Yum!

I also make lemon curd and freeze just the juice. May try to make lemon preserves this year.

Meyer lemons are sweeter then a regular lemon, they're believed to be a cross between a lemon and a mandarin or orange.
Here's an article from the LA Times, 100 things to do with a Meyer lemon. #1 on the list is what I mostly use them for.
