What does it do that any pressure cooker can't do.?

 Why is this pot so coveted??

They were the first to have a stainless steel removeable liner.

 

Also...what really took their popularity to the next level:

Many plant-based bloggers/vloggers/chefs started to

use this machine on a daily basis...instrumental considering the

beans/legumes/soups/starches we cook on a daily basis.

 

The PB community is pretty tight. We know what works

and word gets around pretty fast.  I like to think it made this

way of eating more mainstream with the Instant Pot...and Vitamix.

b/c there's 3 of us and the 6/7? qt is fine for us  


You’re cool!  When I got the 6, it was the only one with a 

yogurt function....plus I was fresh into retirement. I was used to 

making large batches of soups/steamed veg/rice/beans 

once a week for lunches & dinners.

Today? I can just cook my meals as I need...rare I go over the

1/2 way mark of my 6.   Plus it’s so stickin’cute! Ha

I have been cooking since I was 14, and that's a long time ago!  I have had an ancient Presto stovetop cooker; a ******or; a Fissler stovetop (which works well); a Cuisinart and a gigantic Cooks Essential oval 8 quart that I simply hated.

 

In my vast experience with pressure cookers, I can say I have never found one that came near these Insta Pots in the ease of use and the reliability.  

 

The sealing system works great and I never have to watch it or adjust the lid to get it to seal  and it seals quickly and quietly too.  When I vent the steam it gushes out but doesn't spray all over everywhere like the others did.

 

My Fissler set works great and I still have it, but I can't walk away from it and forget it. 

 

My ******or had a stainless pot before I'd ever heard of Insta Pot and is very much like it, but the sealing system is far superior in the IP.

@sidsmom  What is the PB community?   I love my 6qt and converted my sister to boot!  I started with a Wolfgang Puck 6qt and then Elite 8qt.  I still have both plus my Wolfgang Puck rice cooker which I upgraded to a Vitaclay, a clay pot rice cooker!   I cook for one in mine and eat all week and/or freeze.

 

I just think a 3qt is very small, but I'm used to cooking for a large family then myself, so I only downsized a bit as I freeze and eat leftovers.  I think a 3 qt would be great for rice and beans and the like and use the larger one for the rest of the meal.  More and more people have multiple IPs and cook the whole meal in all three at the same time!  It would come in handy for those larger family functions or just avoiding the stove that makes the house so hot in the summer, not that we've had winter or fall here yet, just a slight cooling off, but back to 80+ this week.

PB = Plant Based Community

This way of eating has grown so much over the last several years

and I like to think the ease of cooking has been a good reason.

The popularity of the Vitamix & Instant Pot has made this lifestyle

so easy.  Every Dr, RN, blogger, vlogger, chef, etc who has made

this way of eating their profession, is using an iPot in their cooking 

demos, conferences, seminars, classes, retreats.  Then add the 

many success stories, who demo their food prep on their

personal social media...the good word has a snowball effect. 

And for Amazon to start selling it...wow.  I wouldn’t be at all

surprised if QVC/HSN begins selling it.  It’s grown to that level.

And it’s not uncommon for kitchens to have more than one.

(I don’t understand that, but never say never, right?!)

Thanks @sidsmom I'm just used to it being called vegetarian/vegan, but I'm not into the community that deep. I've just cooked veggies all my life being from a farm, so I prefer lots of veggies in my life. We also eat loads of beans and rice. I'm doing up some veggies like you do in a roast but without the roast, so root veggies in gravy, tomorrow. I still eat a bit of meat now and then, but not every week. Thanks for helping me out!

Thankyou for the feedback. I can see where the insert would make cleanup much easier. And it sounds like a safer pressure cooker too. But I am never in  hurry to cook beans and not being a PB family either probably not something I need. I guess.

@spud188  You really should consider one.  They also retain more vitamins and minerals in your cooking than typical means of cooking meats/vegs.  Pressure cooking lowers the boiling point of water so you are cooking at lower temps that degrade nutrients.  https://wellnessmama.com/77757/pressure-cooker-nutrients/

 

It really is a better way of cooking all your food.  It also doesn't heat up your house like the stove/oven do, so that is a plus here in the south.  Once you start cooking in one, you won't want to go back.  Supper is done much quicker and it is more flavorful because it infuses the seasonings much better!
