I gave my crockpot to a friend years back because it was just too big for me. Most of the time I cook for one. I watch David's shows and see those big ovens and pots and dishes and think how great they look. Then I look at my life and laugh! I can roast a single chicken breast and bake one sweet potato without buying anything new but an occasional roll of aluminum foil!
I fully understand why companies push those items - and it gives me ""exercise in resistance"" when they do.

To me both pressure cookers and slow cookers have their place. Yesterday make some pulled pork(I used a pork roast that came from Costco, it was from a multipack so still have them sitting in the freezer.) Defrosted, I put it in the crock pot in the morning and spent the rest of the beautiful fall day outside working in the yard, just checking on it now and again. But during the week when I don't have as much time, I may have done the same thing, but in the pressure cooker. With both you put in what you want and leave out the stuff you don't, like with premade meals.

I have been pressure cooking all my life---well since I was in 5th grade--I'm 60 now!! Have used the old Presto stove top and now have the electric one. I use it all the time for everything from soup to nuts!!! I also use the crock pot too but the p/c is so much faster and easier. And everything I've done in it turns out spectacular.

I don't think we're missing anything. We just use the tools we already have to do the same things. I'm not one for crock pot cooking, but I do 'oven simmer' in my Le Creuset pots. I have a couple of pressure cookers, but I haven't used them for probably ten years. (I think they are in bags, stored out in the garage with the crock pot)
I can oven-simmer beautiful food with my LC pots and it's going to be a lot better than using a crock pot. But then I don't need to turn something on and leave for the day, plus the oven-simmering takes way less time anyway. That probably makes a difference. Plus, I've been cooking for 50+ years so I have it pretty dialed down.
But kitchen gadgets and small appliances will probably always sell. never mind the rest of that

I used the old stove-top Presto pressure cooker for years. That was a nice tool for the time. But then it started blowing gaskets and it was getting expensive replacing them. That was a shame. Maybe it was because mine was pretty old, though. ![]()

There are only 2 of us, but I never make just one meal (except for fish or steak) when I cook, so I use big pots and roasters etc. My hubby is fine with leftovers (sometimes repurposed) and next to him, my freezer is my best friend!

Well with pressure cookers I'd have to say it's way more that 30 yrs. I'm over half a century old and my mom had one. They just died out for a while because of the safety issues with the old stove top ones. That and the increased popularity of premade frozen meals and fast food joints.
That's just how long I've had one.
I used to have a pressure fryer it was small, but great for chicken and rabbit.

I like the old way of cooking.
