DH went to Einstein and we moved from Morris Park to Rhinelander....I miss the Bronx-especially the Italian section with all of those wonderful cafes and restaurants....it's funny : I was just reminiscing about the good old days....there was this house that we could see from the back of our apt on Rhinelander: every December, they decorated big time-there was traffic all the way to Pelham Parkway lined up to see it! That's funny that you can't find Claxton in the NE: that's where I first became acquainted with it. I love it! Poodlepet2

Hi PP2! The Morris Park section is still one of the nicest places to live in the Bronx. I live in Locust Point very near the Throggs Neck Bridge, so we're not too far from there. I just moved here at the end of 2007.

Collin Street Bakery has always been my family's choice. They are expensive now. I was in Corsicana, Texas, a couple weeks ago, and bought the small fruit cakes, four in a package, different varieties. There isn't much "cake" in a Collin Street fruitcake; they are mostly big pecans and fruit. I've never liked traditional cakey, spicey fruit cakes. The Collin Street are nothing like that.

I cannot believe nobody has posted Collin Street Bakery, Corsicana, Texas. The VERY VERY VERY BEST IMO. I won't eat any other kind. Can you saw YUM!!! I saw the Claxton on Q the other day. It looked like it had a lot of the candied fruit in it.

When I buy fruitcake, I always order from from Collins Street. Excellent fruitcake.

So very bummed out that the monks at the Berryville, Virginia abbey sent out a notice this year they were not selling their AWESOME fruitcakes. I am already in withdrawal and not sure if I will try a substitute. Maybe they will offer next year, I am serious, they are really good.

southernsupreme.com Theirs is the best fruitcake I've ever had. It's full of pecans and only uses candied cherries and candied pineapple..

I haven't seen a fruit cake since I was a young child. And I remember it was quite "yucky" to a little girl. I hadn't thought about it , but since my 'adult taste buds" grew in quite a few years ago, I should try again. Funny how we think we don't like something we haven't tried in decades. It might just be wonderful on this side of life!

Try the Gethsemani monks in Trappist, Kentucky for their fruitcakes. monks dot org or gethsemanifarms dot org
