I won't eat any other kind. Can you saw YUM!!! I saw the Claxton on Q the other day. It looked like it had a lot of the candied fruit in it.
Yep, I agree with you!
Me too. Actually I've always heard how gross fruit cakes were. You know, the jokes. LOL I have only eaten Collin Street fruit cakes and they are wonderful! I love slices served cold with whip cream on top and a cup of coffee! Yum!!!
Me three. I was NEVER a fruitcake person (ok, maybe I'm a fruitcake, but not a fruitcake PERSON) but when I had my first CSB fruitcake I was sold. They are THE best of any, by far.
That said, however, it seems like they are getting a little too expensive. Now, what I do is to wait until after the holidays and get it when they are offering discounts. I get a large one and slice it all up. then I vacuum seal and freeze each slice so that it is pristine for ages and I can just pull one out when I want it.

I am not a fruitcake eater, but my DH is. I have been buying him one from Swiss Colony since the 80a and he says it's the best!

Yuck, I do not like Claxton fruitcakes!
The best place we have found is Costco, they make them in their stores and they are delcious, mostly pecans and cherries, and a little cake!

This thread reminds me of dad. He loved fruitcakes. His traditional present to our families was a block of fruitcake. Sadly, we lovingly referred to it as our Christmas doorstop. I may give fruitcake another chance after listening to you all!

Here's a recipe for Cherry Fruitcake from the Kitchen of AnikaBrodie. In fact, I just made two fruitcakes today using this recipe. It's delicious and is not made with candied fruit. Slicing it with an electric knife works great. Try it; you'll love it!
It freezes well assuming there is any left.
CHERRY FRUIT CAKE
1 ½ CUPS FLOUR
1 ½ CUPS GRANULATED SUGAR
1 TEAS. BAKING POWDER
1 TEAS. SALT
15 OZ. DATES (CHOPPED)
16 OZ. CAN OF PINEAPPLE CHUNKS (DRAINED)
4 CUPS MARASCHINO CHERRIES (DRAINED)
5 ½ CUPS PECANS (WHOLE)
6 LARGE EGGS
1/3 CUP RUM
½ CUP WHITE CORN SYRUP (use after baking)
GREASE TWO 9X5” LOAF PANS. LINE WITH FOIL ALLOWING A 2” OVERHANG. GREASE AGAIN.
MIX FLOUR, SUGAR, BAKING POWDER AND SALT TOGETHER.
ADD DATES, PINEAPPLE, CHERRIES AND PECANS AND MIX TOGETHER THOROUGHLY.
BEAT EGGS AND ADD RUM TO EGGS. ADD TO INGREDIENTS AND MIX WELL. POUR INTO TWO 9X5” PANS. PACK DOWN TIGHTLY.
BAKE AT 300 DEG. FOR 1 Âľ HOURS OR UNTIL TOOTHPICK COMES OUT CLEAN. COOL IN PANS FOR 15 MIN., REMOVE FROM PANS AND TAKE OFF FOIL. BRUSH WITH CORN SYRUP WHILE STILL WARM.
ENJOY … IT’S DELICIOUS. FRUITCAKE CAN BE FROZEN IF ANY IS LEFT.

They also have walnut fruitcakes which I love. They don't have Citrons and heavy spices in them, so if you like the old fashioned ones which are spicy and strong tasting, these aren't for you. I hated fruitcake till I had one of Puddinhill's.
Another vote for Mary of Puddin Hill. I'm not fond of many fruitcakes, but I love the ones that I get from Puddin Hill in Texas. I saw an ad almost 30 years ago where you could request a sample from them. I sent for the sample and once I tried it, I had to have them from then on. I can vouch for the pecan, walnut, and apricot fruit cakes. All are excellent, but as 05gage25 stated, these aren't like the old fashioned fruit cakes that most people think of, when fruitcake is mentioned.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

IMO, it is the Jam Pot. The Jam Pot is a monastery in Michigan. The Monks make the best ever Jam, fruit cakes. But the orders have to be in by October 24th each year. They close, and are in solitary life until late spring. I buy my jams there and have been buying fruit cake. Thus year I forgot to order, and no fruitcake for me!
We did get a small one from Collins Bakery, and it was very good. But it is not quite like the monk's fruitcake. Theirs is also way larger. It comes wrapped in a cheesecloth. I get the one without booze, but they have one that is soaked in brandy or whiskey.

They are located in Bear Creek, NC . You can visit their business and in Oct. they do tours.
I went there yesterday.
There is a video on You Tube, showing clips on how they make some of their best sellers.
Search for How to make Fruitcake-Southern Supreme Gourmet Specialties
They also let you sample in the tasting room, before shopping. YUM YUM !!! ![]()
