Just a heads up for others who have been having that problem. I have electric oven which I now wish I didn't , but, that's my problem. So, my sister said to buy a oven therm. I did Mon. came home set the oven to preheat to 350`,stuck the oven therm in there and waited. So, when the pre heat signal indicated had reached 350` I looked thru the glass at the therm. it said 250`!!! I kept watching just to see what it would do. Went up to 400` then settled at 375.
Ok, so, now I know why I have been getting lousy baking . Didn't think I had lost my touch after 40 yrs of baking. I hit the phone and called an app. repair man. He comes out and does his test on the sensor it's lousy. (Have a 4 yr. old Kenmore wall oven) He goes on to tell me how ALL APPLIANCES now days are a rip off. He said you got 2 choices now days :
1. ok
2. sorry, Charlie best chance you have are Whirlpool and he named one other. Worse, are GE, LG, Sanyo and Samsung. They know they are no good when they make them and that is so you have to buy parts for them . In my case it will cost me with his trip charge 250.00 to get fixed . He said a new sensor should fix it . It does 80% of the time. If not, a new 'board' will have to be ordered and that is between 400-500. I said "P on that I'll buy a new oven " he said, "Bingo, that's what they want you to do either have to buy new parts or you get discouraged and go buy a new one that will give you the same problem. I thought I could buy a new oven for 500 he laughed and said I'd be counting on 1,000.
So, kids, this is what I'm gonna do . If the new sensor works on my present oven. Fine, I'll keep it and be out 250.00. If that doesn't cure it I'm going to just use it to bake meats , turkeys. etc. I'm in the market for a convection oven for my cookies, cakes, rolls, pies and breads. The Kitchen aid convection doesn't have an interior light, so, I'm not crazy about that one. I'm spending the day researching new convection ovens. Most will go around 250 but by buying at Bed & Bath I can knock that down to 200 and no shp. costs.
If anybody has one and feels like giving me the benefit of their experience on 1 I'll be here.

I think you are right. I saw this covered in an article I read. Anyway, always makes you feel better to blame the oven! I'm sure you bake delicious, beautiful cookies! The oven is the culprit!

Sharke, I have put my faith in Whirlpool (or Roper by Whirlpool) appliances for over 30 years and have never been disappointed. I would rather have a low end of the line Whirlpool than any top end, bells and whistles in any other brand. Call me old fashioned, but I like my appliances basic and reliable. All that fancy stuff is just more to go wrong, IMO.
The upside is, you are not losing your touch. You are still the same fabulous baker your always have been

When none of my baking was turning out I discovered that my baking powder was from 1976.

When my 7 year old (and quite expensive) Kitchen Aid DW stopped cleaning my dishes I called out a repairman who came yesterday and what he told me was almost word for word what yours told you.
1. No appliance is built to last, they all have a very much shortened life span compared to those manufactured even just a decade ago.
2. Buy Whirlpool (which is exactly what Kitchen Aid is), they seem to have the best track record
3. While energy efficiency standards set by the government are important to the environment, the efficiency of the appliance is greatly reduced causing disappointment in its performance. Water is not as hot nor is it enough to really get the job done, detergents no longer have phosphates in them and electrical usage is diminished.
When I told him how unhappy I was with my all "new" appliances and considered just upgrading one more time he told me not to bother, that the new appliances are even worse and I'd wish for my 7 year old ones back.
Thankfully I only needed my filter to be cleaned out which is a mystery to me since I both scrape and rinse and told him so. He told me that I almost need to wash the dish before I put it into the DW to which I said "what's the point of the DW then?". He said that while the salesman told me that buying the one I bought would help it last longer because it had a "grinder" to handle some small food items, that the grinders never work.
Just a P.S. When hubby and I bought our first house in 1975 we bought a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator. When we moved in the new house in 1986 we put that one in the garage where it worked beautifully until the spring of 2013. Thirty eight years old and only one repair to the freezer. They sure don't make them like that anymore.
Sad, really sad.

Hmmm....A sensor? I know there are differences between ovens, but we just had Sears out yesterday for our annual check on our appliances. (We carry their maintenance contract.)
When the repairman tested our oven, he said it was running 15 degrees too high. (I knew it was running a little hot.) I can't tell you exactly how he did it, but I watched him hit the temperature button on our oven until it went as high as it could go, then he started hitting the down button until it got to where it should be (350). Voila! It was adjusted. You might look in your oven manual to see if there is a way you can adjust your oven temperature. If you can't find the manual, look on line. Good luck!

The sensor is that little 'wand' like thing on the left hand side that looks like a wire held in place by 2 screws. It was off , too. I think it's a shame all the dirty tricks that are being played on the trusting consumer and should be looked into. I'm feeling a 'crusade' coming over me. Last time I felt that way when my husband wasn't getting his Kmart pension after a lot of double talk and delays and how it was our fault for not sending the right credentials, etc. We sent certified mail and took names of folks and after 4 months still no pension. Bad enough they said 400 a month, then, it was recalculated to 165 a month, then, they didn't want to pay that either.
Suffice it to say it's coming direct deposit now to our account ! I got pro active and took care of it along with some help from the U.S. Dept of Labor in Washington, D.C.
