@newname0   I used to like Scotch Broth, Mulligitawny, Pea Soup, all of which I believe they have discontinued.  Cream of Shrimp Soup was in the freezer case back in the, I want to say, '60s/'70s.

Then it was on the regular shelves though I haven't seen it recently.

They still make Cream of Celery and Cream of Chicken.  I also like their Chicken Gumbo, which they may have discontinued.  I've used their Onion Soup.  They still make Golden Mushroom.

They had Bouillion, Consomme, Tomato with Vermicelli, and a Mock Turtle Soup.  They had Chicken WonTon--discontinued and not very good, so discontinued inn '70s/'80s?

During the pandemic I think they are only producing the most popular lines.

I would bet that their most popular soups are Tomato, Chicken Noodle and the "Cream of" Soups being the most popular.  The Mushroom is probably tops in that category would be my guess.

Very handy for quick meals and to use in so many passed down recipes.

Some supermarket chains carry more of a selection than others.  ShopRite carried an extensive line when I lived in Connecticut.

Sorry to hear that Scotch Broth is discontinued. I was looking for it this week after not buying it for a few years. Coincidental thread. Loved that soup. Also Bean with Bacon.

Thick hearty soups.

I used to put a can of Beef Consomme in the refrigerator and eat the resulting jelly as a snack, useful when on a diet in my younger days. Also liked Cream of Asparagus and Chicken Gumbo but again, hadn't bought them in years.

Another soup I liked that's disappeared is Snow's Clam Chowder. It was the best of the canned clam chowders.

I'd stopped having canned soup when my daughter grew up and limiting my sodium intake until stocking up for the pandemic pantry.

@candyagain Quickly looked for Scotch Broth online earlier today, saw that they're still selling it in Canada.

I guess I'll have to travel when lockdown is over. Smiley Very Happy In the meantime, I'm going to check Amazon for awhile. Love that soup!

Re: do you remember these can soups>

I hope Chicken Gumbo comes back after the pandemic.  I use it in the classic Betty Crocker recipe for sloppy joes.  I only use the broth part, but the original recipe calls for using all the soup.  I hear there has been a shortage of cans for food processors to use.

I've never heard of this one, but it sounds like something I'd like to try.

Does anyone know what exactly Mock Turtle soup is? I never heard of it and was wondering what is in it and what it tasted like.

@AlAnn

MOCK turtle soup is just a soup that replaces the turtle/terrapin meat with another type of chewy meat usually. terrapin/turtle soup was quite popular in parts of maryland and in the new orleans area, beginning in the early 19th century. it also contained sherry and was definitely a rich/hearty soup.

Yes, and still very popular here in NOLA. I was just reading that Commander's Palace restaurant is shipping turtle soup all over the country during the COVID slow down.  Turtle soup is dee-licious!  If I were to order a "last meal" turtle soup would be the first course.

@Neetgal2 Pepper Pot was also my Mom's favorite. Before it was discontinued, it was hard to find. I would buy it by the case from an Acme close to where I lived and bring it to my Mom's house so she would have it.

I no longer buy canned soup because of the high sodium content.

Re: do you remember these can soups>

I don't cook with them a whole lot, but I've always taken them for granted.

I always liked cream of mushroom as a staple for cooking, as well as cream of chicken and cream of asparagus.

DH and I both grew up on chicken noodle and tomato. When I make tomato I make it with half milk and half water, just like Mom did! When we were sick she gave us chicken noodle with an egg swirled into it. The hot soup cooks the egg, so it's almost like egg drop soup. I still make it that way!

I work with two food programs. The families love to get Campbell's soups. They are good for feeding everyone and they are non perishable.

Every year we have a "Soup-er Bowl " the weekend before the game. People can donate one or more cans.  Smiley Happy
