I do. If the dish wasn't rinsed well, it won't set well on your tummy. Mine come back washed, but I just feel better if I wash it too.

I do not give food to others in a dish that needs to be returned. I do not want them to have the chore of cleaning and returning my dish.

Yes, I usually wash them again. Unless they are from my momma. Then I know they are clean Smiley Happy.

I have a few dishes that I haven't gotten back and I can't remember where they went. That's another problem.

I never give anything in a dish that needs to be returned.  It's too much trouble for the person you're giving the food to.

Re: dishes getting them back

I rewash unless it is my mom who lives next door who is doing the returning.

I figure they have handled it, it probably was in a car to get back to me, and maybe not in a bag or anything, so who knows what it was in contact with. I don't know how long it sat out after they washed it, or where it sat (on the floor by the door waiting to get taken to the car, in the garage till they went out the next time, on the backseat floor of the car for a week till they remembered to drop it by....).

I see too many pictures on the internet of people's kitchens where their cats are in a bowl or a pan on the counter taking a nap. Many people think that is cute (and it is) but it is gross too, if you don't wash the dish before you then use it.

Always wash them....never know if their cat or dog licked them before given to me...or some other disgusting thing...i could never imagine just putting that dish/dishes into my cupboard before MY washing them....

Re: dishes getting them back

When I bring something to a family gathering, I will either put it in a Betty Crocker or Rubbermaid container that I can get at Dollar Tree, don't care if I get it back or in one of the throw away aluminum pans.
