Re: delima trying to clean a sink

If none of the aforementioned suggestions delete the scratch, perhaps it's not metal transfer, and maybe the surface needs further repair. A surface repair company like Surface Specialists and others could do an awesome job bringing the new porcelain sink back to its original state. These service companies can be googled to find a local one.

It sounds as if it is not a surface mark.

Re: delima trying to clean a sink

@kittyloo  I don't know this, but would be concerned about damaging the sink's finish with muriatic acid.

Last night I Googled, "titanium scratch marks on porcelain."  An old (British) website was in the search list, finishing<dot>com.  At that site is a long conversation about this very issue, husbands' rings and watches leaving scratch marks on sinks.  One particular item seemed to be the solution for several folks:  Cramer China & Bath Rubber/Scuff Remover, available on Amazon for $13.  I looked at the photo, and to my inexperienced eye, it looks for all the world like a pumice stone.  (I have frequently read that, without marring the surface, a pumice stone is good for removing water stains in a toilet bowl.)

Other people said they found 400-600 grit sandpaper to be effective, but, again, I'd worry about dulling the finish if rubbed too vigorously.

Good luck with your search!  I empathize because my DH knocked a large chip in our kitchen $ink bowl within 24 hours of installation.

@kittyloo

I missed the point that you were dealing with a porcelain sink, and not stainless steel, which is one place where I occasionally use a Magic Eraser.

The packaging for Magic Eraser spells out al little bit as to where it can be used without damage.  I know those erasers  look like harmless little sponges, but their abrasiveness is what makes them so effective for certain jobs and certain surfaces.

I stand by the advice to use a  prolonged soaking (if necessary) in baking soda and then rubbing with a paper towel or cloth to get many things cleaner, including porcelain and ceramic.

Hope you get satisfaction and a better-looking sink!

Yikes! Just WATCH OUT if you're going to use a Mr. Clean eraser!! It's take the finish off! Yes It'll get rid of the mark but it will forever be a dull area. I learned the hard way when these erasers first came out. I was at my parents house and bragged about these wonder cleaners and I went up and down their hallway walls. Got all of the marks off but as I stood back to admire my handiwork OMG dull marks all down their hallway! My dad was not a happy camper that he had to then repaint their hallway walls!

Been there, done that on eggshell finish painted walls! LOL.

@CelticCrafter, me too - and I now need to call a painter to paint the walls.

Had some marks on my gray colored walls in the hallway.  I was so happy the eraser was removing all of the marks and scratches, but then as others said, when I walked away to admire my work, I saw the finish was all dull.

Like another reviewer, I am also a big fan of Bar Keeper's Friend. I use it to clean my porcelain sink, tub and tile.

I even use it on my Le Creuset to remove occasional stains. Never scratches and really does the job.

we are putting in a new bathroom.  while dh was installing the porcelin sink, his titanium wedding band scratched the sink.  about a 2 inch scratch right in the front.  he says its metal transfer.  he tried comet to no avail.  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think the Comet he used is more potent than Barkeeper's Friend, Bon Ami, Magic Eraser, and anything else anyone has suggested.  Additionally, Comet has bleach in it.  Are you sure it's just a surface mark?  If Comet won't do it, I don't know what will.

Re: delima trying to clean a sink

Contact the manufacturer.

If all else fails, they do make paint for porcelain sinks/tubs.  I have used it in the past and it's super easy and you could not tell that it was not original.
