cooking beans in my Instant Pot

Been meaning to try cooking beans in the p/c  without having to soak them first and I did it today with pinto beans---and it worked great!! It took 35 minutes cooking time  with 20 minutes for the natural pressure release. Fresh pinto beans for..........something now. Woman Wink

That is my favorite thing to cook in the instant pot!  I love pinto beans, forget to soak...no problem!

@wagirl nice! I love my Instant Pot. I now make oatmeal for the week in it. Its stupid easy!

Pinto Bean ideas:

  • Refried Beans ( of course)
  • Cowboy Caviar ( an embellished salsa/non-dairy dip)
  • A hummus perhaps?
  • A fast Taco Soup
  • Chili
  • Baked Beans
  • Peppers, Onions and Bean cooked side dish
  • Some kind of casserole addition

I like just plain beans in broth but I also make chili with the pinto beans.  Sometimes I have the beans seasoned with broth over rice.

"Rice & Beans" (with plenty of salsa) is my fave "comfort food"...

Re: cooking beans in my Instant Pot

I did cook the beans in veggie broth and diced tomatoes in too--not good-- so I ended up rinsing the beans . I was following a new recipe---but I saved the beans!!!

When I was a teenager, I worked at a Mexican factory that made corn/flour tortillas, tamales, refried beans , taco meat, hot sauce-- as they supplied the many restaurants in downtown Seattle. OMG---those lovely woman could cook!! It was run by all women too and they knew how to make it all the proper Mexican way. But we would eat fresh cooked pinto beans that those ladies would doctor up as soup!!! The best ever!!!!

Re: cooking beans in my Instant Pot

Been using my pressure cooker alot lately--I use it for my veggies alot---last night I cooked my green beans in it--so delicious and took 2 minutes--came out just tender but without that kind of squeaky feel---and then I dumped in some cubed potatoes --9 minutes--and wow, did they cook up nicely--creamy and perfect for mashed spuds. I made a meat loaf for dinner, to go with.  I nearly always cook corn on the cob in it too--2 minutes with quick release and it is so good. Woman Very Happy

Re: cooking beans in my Instant Pot

I glad all of you are enjoying your Instant Pot. I had mine but I had to give it away for an strange reason. I was never able to enjoy the food. The materials used to make the pot triggered migraines on me. I felt sad.

Even I changed the inner stainless steel pot to a non stick one. No improvement. Now, I only have my Crock Pot, no problems with that one.
