It's fall and I was in the mood for my stew.
I can make carrots and potatoes on the side; refrigerated potatoes become "mealy" as the starch becomes sugar.
I usually put carrots and potatoes in pot roast.
3 lb. lean stew meat (I always freeze)
1 1/2 coarsely cut chopped onions
16 oz coarsely Portebello mushrooms
3 Tbsp. Worcester
2 cans Beef Broth
2 C Savingion wine
10 hrs on low in a crock pot.

@ECBG You read my mind! I received a slow cooker today that I ordered earlier this week. I wanted to make beef stew .
When I got married in the 1980's, we received several slow cookers for wedding gifts. Back then, I never thought I'd miss one if I didn't have one. I'm glad I have one again.

THEN, we found out how nice it was NOT to have to stand over the hot stove/oven and ANY cut of meat comes out so tender and flavorful!

This is the recipe I follow, except I toss my meat in a Ziploc bag of flour and saute in olive oil before stewing in the slow cooker with the rest of the ingredients. I like a lttle texture on the outside of the meat when serving.
