You Know What's REally Good? Crunchy Celery!

I Got a bunch of celery, cut it up and put the sticks in a glass of water in the refrigerator.

They stay so cold and fresh and crunchy this way!

And plain or with cream cheese or hey even peanut butter-a great snack and pick me up instead of well cheez-its, cookies, candy you know all that stuffWoman LOL

I'm quite pleased with myself lol!

Good for you, @on the bay . I try hard to like celery but just don't and end up throwing it away, something that really goes against my grain. I like cucumbers or carrots for my crunchy needs, but since they're not in season here (cukes) and they're not so tasty right now, I've "settled" for pretzels or pita chips, neither are good substitutes. I'm going to try to follow your lead and start making better choices.

@on the bay  I use celery that way too.  I've done it for a long time.  I found a celery keeper for my clean, cut stalks in an antique shop, but I never investigated its age.  No idea how old it is - I just like that it's tall and square heavy glass which fits easily into my refrigerator.

@Carolina925,

I love cucumbers too but I know what you mean by not in season. And even in season they have to be crisp and not mushy.

I like pretzels too -so crunchy.

It probably is easier to find nice vegetables in the summer.

@millieshops,

I never heard of that kind for celery.

I just put these in a short glass with water and even though the sticks are only covered on the bottom, they have stayed crisp for over a week now.

I guess its like flowers, really only the bottom of the stems need water.

My mother had a great celery keeper that was an old tupperware. Also a lettuce one too.

@on the bay   I love having snacks that work into the restrictions my health now demands, so my celery square is rarely empty.   I do change the water every 5 to 7 days, but as you've already discovered there's no real work once you do the original trim and cleanse.

I love celery and especially with peanut butter!  I get disgusted with myself though because I let so much of it go to waste!

I love celery but I don't often buy it because it goes bad.....even wrapping it in aluminum foil doesn't help. Yesterday I got one for $1 with my grocery order and it looked delicious. Right in the crisp drawer until I throw it out in a couple of weeks.....

I would like to cook it with other veggies or veggies and meat ....does anyone have a way to cook it?

I love celery either plain or dipped in ranch dressing. I have some in the refrigerator now in a resealable plastic bag. We are fortunate here in south Florida to have an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables year round.

Re: You Know What's REally Good? Crunchy Celery!

Thanks for the reminder!  I have some celery that is starting to get a bit limp and will see if i can make it crunchy again by putting in a glass of cold water.
