Re: Yikes...today almost set my kitchen on FIRE!!!!

I confess that I burnt rice last week.  It was cooking in a little olive oil and I walked away for just a few minutes, but I forgot to turn the heat down.

It burnt to a solid black on the bottom of the pan and my house smelled awful for a few days.

I immediately took the smoking pan outside, then poured water into the pan and left it out there. Before I went to bed, I dumped out the water and used a scraper with a razor blade to remove some of the rice. There was plenty left behind.

I then sprayed that New Dawn dish cleaner in there, and went to bed.  The next morning, I was shocked that most of the black burnt in rice was loose.  That spray detergent is wonderful!

I used the scraper again and a little Brillo and put the pan in the dishwasher.  It is as good as new.  Stainless steel is hard to kill.

I hate when I do stupid stuff, but life happens.

I have ruined many plastic things by placing them in a hot burner before.....I wish I had a gas stove.

I have started turning on the light on the stove hood any time I use the burners as a reminder.  Can't be too careful and it's so easy to get distracted.....especially with a dog in the house!  Hope it helps me stay safe!

Excellent idea!

I thought I'd turned off a burner but it clicked just a little past "off" toward "Hi" without my noticing.  Nothing burned before I noticed that the chili was cooking down awfully fast but it could have.

How about they invent a stovetop that asks "Are you sure you're done here?"  LOL
