Ye Gads Refrigerator went out now !

First the oven right before the church dinner on the 24th. Now, the refrigerator quit on me. Back to the appliance store got a new Whirlpool, white, ice and water in door, filter at bottom. 26 cubic foot.

Delivery Friday. Why I shop the mom and pop appliance places. In stock and installers.

Delivery, set up, take off old one, taxes all in one swoop. No waiting around. Don't mind paying tad more want to get the new one up and running.

@SharkE that's great that you support your local businesses.

I also try to do so whenever I can although the chains have really wiped out many of the mom and pop shops that you noted. Such a shame.

Starting making a high pitched whining sound. I traced it down to the refrigerator. Quit making ice, period.

frozen meats was getting softer.

Had to transfer all the stuff to the upright freezer before it all thawed out. Threw out ice cream.

water pooling underneath it where water was draining

LG only bought in 2019 ! Guy at the store said stuff is being farmed out to India, China to people who will work for a lot less then Americans, no unions, etc.

He said a lot of places will have their stuff assembled elsewhere and the finished product is shipped to U.S. and put their own name on it 'made in America'.

We're all being fed a bill of goods. Nothing you can do about it. If you need an appliance what U gonna do ?

My fridge is also 26 cu ft, and it is very very old, only thing that crapped out is the ice maker, we make ice in trays. I pray each day it holds up, so far so good. It is Frigidaire. side by side.

My ice maker makes ice, but the dispenser doesn't work anymore. I had it repaired right before the warranty expired and a month later it quit again so I've left it. I just reach in to get my ice.

I promised myself if it quit making ice too I'd go back to trays if the rest of the refrigerator still worked.

We had a side by side fridge at our former mountain place. DH decided to take out the ice maker because he needed more freezer room. The trays worked perfectly...once we found them at a thrift store.

It seems that in older models the first thing to die is the ice maker. We can easily live without it. My friend has a Whirlpool that is almost 30 years old and the only issue is the ice maker. She also uses the trays.

And truth be told, the cubes from the trays are so much nicer and bigger then we ever had from the ice maker,

@geezerette My ice maker still makes ice but the dispenser stopped working. What we do is dump the ice in the bin that came with our LG fridge for extra ice and we bought a stainless big scoop from Amazon for scooping ice out. I actually like doing this better now.

@Shelbelle Sounds like we have the same fridge and my ice maker stopped working, we just buy a bag of ice and put it in the ice holder and we can still use the dispenser.
