Re: Would you use this pan again?

I would get rid of it for sure and buy another pot in a different color.

@beach-mom.  You're our second "mouse in the pot" story today.  What are the chances?

No way would I toss a Le Creuset pot.  Clean that puppy up and forget your hangups.

Yes...it is totally fine to use again once it’s cleaned up.

I responded to the other thread, as well as this one.  I think too many people have become obsessive about issues that people used to just take in stride.

I would throw it out.  No matter how you clean it, the pot may still have bacteria from the mouse. OMG

No.  Once you disinfect an item like this, there is no more bacteria remaining

Re: Would you use this pan again?

Here's what I would do...

Scrub it out thoroughly.

Boil water and vinegar for a while.

I'm sure it will be safe after that, but if you can't get past it, donate it. The new owner will be safe and happy for getting a bargain.

Of course, I'd continue to use the pan. There is no need to throw it away. Put on your big girl pants, wash it in the dishwasher and boil water in it on top of the stove, perhaps with some bleach. If you have any question about properly cleaning it, call the LeCreuset company. I'd bet money they'll tell you not to throw the pan away.

Re: Would you use this pan again?

Our neighbbor has a Toyota Prius.  Huge mouse problem with this model for people that live in the woods, Toyota knows all about it, but wouldn't honor warranty for many people.  She had a few hundred dollars worth of screening put into her car to keep them out of the passenger compartment.  She was so disgusted with dead mice, odor, foot prints etc that she was ready to sell the car.  She cooled down after a couple months, did her OCD cleaning of the interior, and is still driving the car.  Use the pot once on something you don't spend a lot of time or money on.  You will know then whether you can continue to use it or not.

Re: Would you use this pan again?

Yes, I would clean the pot and reuse.

My mind just doesn’t overthink, or get hung up on little things like this; just deal with it and move on.

If mice get inside your house, there usually isn’t a drawer or surface they haven’t explored, whether they leave visible evidence or not.  Same in restaurant kitchens, but alongside roaches and rats.

As a young child, I saw my grandmother pull a dead mouse out of the crock where she was fermenting cabbage for kraut.

Re: Would you use this pan again?

I would never consider reusing it.

From the dead rodent and it’s feces and whatever other worms or unknown body fluids it has - these types of bacteria could get into any minute crevice or unseen scratch and permanently stain and contaminate it. It’s just not worth it.  Period.
