Would not make me uncomfortable in the slightest. I'd donate my portion and spend my time finding a perfect gift (does not have to be expensive) for my best friend.

That's pretty much the situation, but I don't care whose idea she thinks it is. We all love this woman dearly and we all want her to have a memorable birthday. I guess because I love to entertain so much, I feel a little uneasy about not cooking or baking anything. I understand that the host wishes to do things her way. I offered to help, but she doesn't want that kind of help. I'm planning to have a wonderful time.
