To learn about it, go to tastings until you find one that you really like.
When you find one that you like, find others with the same grape and price and taste those. Note the differences, and what you like and dislike about those.
You can find tastings at restaurants (called flights), wine stores, farmers markets, and vineyards.
Wine-os, feel free to chime in on learning about wine!
I have tried the local wine at the farmers market.
I bought 2 - Mon Cherie - a sparkling rose and Steampunk - a sparking cider made with 12 varieties of apples. The Steampunk is great for summer food like sausage, peppers and onions.

I saw a wine glass in a gift shop that actually had the capacity for an entire bottle.

I don't know anything about those! I haven't even tried them. And you're pairing the cider. You're off to a great start!

They are just from around here - Great Lakes wines.
A friend of mine used to live with the man who owned Bully Hill vineyards. They used to have a great 4th of July party every year.
Have you ever heard of Bully Hill? or Konstantin Frank? I have been to his winery too.
Ice wine is another specialty of upstate NY and Ontario. There are some great wineries along the Lake Ontario shoreline in Canada.

Terrier, I haven't heard of those wineries. As a matter of fact, I didn't know until several+ years ago what a large winemaking region upstate NY is.
One of my coworkers is Canadian. She always says that she will bring me back a bottle of ice wine when I fill in for her. I haven't seen a bottle yet.

There are many wonderful vineyards in Northern Virginia and I want to visit them all but my dream of course is to go to Nappa Valley out in California. We may plan a trip next year. My DH prefers whites and and like all wines! We usually have a glass or two of wine with dinner every night.
Hi Hayfield! I'm right here in MD and have never been to the VA wineries. We did go to the one in Williamsburg, but there was a long wait for the tour and tasting.
Try Ingleside in Va if you can, we stopped there a few years ago and it was wonderful!

Candle, thanks for the recommendation! They have an event at the winery in September that DH said he wants to go to. Thank you!
