My sweet Daddy was not one to waste his time watching a traditional cooking show, but if Justin Wilson was on, my Dad was watching!   Daddy was totally entertained by Justin's speech, his mannerisms, his jokes, and his cooking---especially the way he was with any dish he made containing wine.   If I hadn't actually been right there with my Dad during an episode or two, and witnessed his deep enjoyment of that half hour show, I never would've believed what I saw.

My Dad got interested in this TV show when he was recovering from colon cancer surgery.   The surgery was very hard on my Dad; mentally, and physically.   We realized much later how therapeutic Justin Wilson was for him, as he spent that half hour totally focused on someone, and something else besides himself.   Once Daddy caught onto the Cajun lingo, he often laughed over Justin's jokes, until tears ran down his face.   I am convinced that show helped my Dad heal emotionally as well as physically.
