DH says "Planter's Punch," which is a mid-dark rum. Stay away from clear rums that look like water. It's available in 80, 90 and 150 proof, so you can choose your poi-son.

I prefer brandy in my eggnog and in hot buttered rum (brandy). A more mellow taste.

I like Myers dark rum. Nice body, compliments Egg Nogg as well as Tom and Jerrys.

Like others have mentioned, I prefer brandy in my eggnog. I don't buy an expensive brand, just Coronet VSQ.

What a GOOD reminder? I actually prefer brandy myself. And you're right, you don't have to pour Courvoisier VSOP into it. In fact, at one point, I think I used Christian Brothers California Brandy for cooking. It has a good flavor.

Again, thank you all for your responses. Dh picked up some Bacardi light rum at the grocery yesterday. So, I'll let you all know how we liked it in our nog.

That's what I use also, sometimes with a splash of Hennessy. Yum!
