Where is the cooking kind of chocolate puddings?

I wanted to make coooked chocolate pudding. All I could find were the instant ones. I finally settled on the  butterscotch kind that I can cook.

Have any others found this at their grocery store ? I didn't have time to search other stores, so I don't know if this is fairly common, or just here.

@Flatbush  It's like this every year.  I have a diabetic in the family so I need to use the sugar free cook.  Chocolate pudding seems to vanish around september.  I saw a couple (and I DO mean two) of cook chocolates at Market Basket last week but It sure is a hunt for the cooking kind of chocolate pudding this time of year.

Our store is often out of them.  I agree -- mostly what they carry now is the instant variety.

I'm in the South (GA) and my Walmart, Publix and Kroger still has it. I only buy the Cook & Serve, don't like any flavor of instant pudding.

I see other posters gave you recipes to make your own, please be aware that it's like night and day between a box and home made.   You will probably never buy another box again.

There is that much of a difference and it's so much better.

Good Luck....

plenty of chocolate on the shelves of cook and serve here

Re: Where is the cooking kind of chocolate puddings?

My grandma made this recipe, it's one of my favorite food memories:

1/4 cup brown sugar

3 tbsp cocoa

3 tbsp cornstarch

1/4 tsp salt

2 3/4 cups milk

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 cup milk chocolate chips

1/2 tsp vanilla

Whisk brown sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt in big saucepan.  Whisk in milk and cream until smooth.  Stir in chocolate chips and bring to simmer, stirring occasionally.  Whisk over low heat until thickened.  Stir in vanilla off the stove.
