This morning before I left for work I put the ingredients for crack chicken in the crockpot and made some rice to go with it.
@MOMMAVik  DH loves when one of the grandkids spend the night cause he knows I'll make a big breakfast.
@Pooky1  your Easter tree sounds beautiful!

It was a beautiful day today!  We got to75!  The first day in months our furnace has ran!

Have a good evening everyone!

Re: Whats cooking this month of march?

Well plans changed.  Both DH and DD were at the ER today.  DH has had pain in his jaw all weekend.  When he emailed his nurse practioner this morning she suggested he go to the ER.  I suspect she thought he might be having a heart attack which my DH and I thought was not the case but none the less he went b/c the pain was so bad.  They could not find anything wrong with him but prescribed him Gabapentin for nerve pain and told him to follow up with an ENT.  I think it is his eustachian tube but I told him in addition to the ENT, make an appointment with his dentist just in case.

Then DD passed out while working out at the gym and they called an ambulance to take her to the ER.  She is OK and has been known to pass out in the past when exerting herself and not eating properly or hydrating.

So no one cooked tonight.  We got take out from Cheesecake Factory.  I unfortunately got the wrong item- cashew chicken.  It was too spicy so I spilt DH's cheeseburger french dip with him.

I'm sorry to read about your DH and DD, @ninjawife .  What a day for all of you!  I hope your DH will feel some relief and get the appropriate appointments lined up, to get to the bottom of things.  I hope with your DD that she remembers this and takes the appropriate steps so it won't happen again.  That's scary.

DH & I didn't get our noon walk in until closer to dusk.  By that time, I just wanted to get it done so I hustled and went a little faster than normal.  I didn't hurt anything but I did feel more tired into the evening than usual.  I often stay up a bit later than him but lastnight I beat him upstairs.  Consequently, early to bed means early to rise so I've been up for a couple of hours already.  I'm waiting for it to get light enough before I go outside.

Lunch today -

- Turkey Breast, Black Forest Ham & Jarlsberg Cheese on Romaine Lettuce Leaves with Avocado Mayo, Tomato, and Sliced Avocado

- Green Beans

- A Couple of Mini Peppers
- A Few Pork Rinds

- Homemade KF Carrot Cupcake w/Cream Cheese Frosting

@ninjawife, I hope your family is feeling better. Gabapentin has helped me over the past year. Possible that your DH may not need it once he sees the other doctors to diagnose the reason for that pain. Wishing you a better day!

Re: Whats cooking this month of march?

My son has an available day today to come do some handyman work around here and he's bringing my granddaughter, so DH and I slipped out early to vote.

Tonight I'm making a new "recipe".  It's ham and cheese on Hawaiin rolls, then baked in the oven with a sauce on top.  We'll have chips on the side, no veggie... hoping the nutrition police doesn't come knocking at my door.

Update on the salmon patties... I guess I bought the wrong canned salmon because I opened it and it had skin and bones.  I literally gagged, then threw it into the trash and made a shrimp dish instead.  I promised DH that I'd try it again when we have leftover salmon. I can't risk opening another can like that... ugh....

@house_cat,
You did not buy the wrong salmon, that's exactly what you get with canned salmon, and your husband's mother drained it and mashed the bones and skin up along with whatever other ingredients she added to make the salmon cakes. Once that product is canned under pressure, the bones are so soft they mash and mix completely into the salmon flesh. Eating the bones is where the calcium boost comes in. You could've just removed the bones and skin if they skeeved you out that much. Any other brand of canned salmon will be the same.

Re: Whats cooking this month of march?

@house_cat,

Those baked sandwiches with the Hawaiian rolls sound like recipes I've seen for baked sliders. Your dinner sounds delicious!

I agree with @RedTop about the canned salmon. Mom used to make salmon patties every week using the canned salmon & did mash the skin & bones in. I loved the patties.

Now a days I am fortunate that DH catches fresh salmon here in Lake Michigan. I use that to make salmon patties. My family loves them with many different sides, even on buns with lettuce & mayo. Try the patties again. I'm sure you'll get thumbs up from your DH!

Growing up I love my mom's salmon patties and as a newly married woman in '82 one of my first dishes to make. I wish someone had taken a picture of my face the first time I opened that can and saw that bony mess!! I stood there looking at it and did my best to debone.  I too thought I had bought the wrong can but did not.  I did not do a very good job taking out the bones that night and I think I only made a couple of times after that.
